OOOOOOHHHHH YEEEEAAAAHHHH. There's a new Mayor up in here. Somebody to help get these posts up more regularly and to keep all you loyal BHGPers entertained. And that somebody is... not me. It's Mexican't. Technically, we'll be sharing the duties (and the next Ham'dam you see will probably be authored by him), but the truth is I'm simply not cool enough to be Mayor, I'm more of a Comptroller. But just like in a real city, you'll be needing both of us to run this place.
Mexican't is your cool-as-a-cucumber, says-the-right-things Tommy Carcetti type. I'm a less presentable, back-room guy they keep away from the masses, basically I'm Norman Wilson. I guess that would make Ross the retiring Bunny Colvin, which is a pretty cool guy to be. I'm now jealous. So anyway, if you liked Ross's Hamsterdam posts (and you should, because Ross rawks), you'll love Mexican't's posts that will generally be more of the same: current and interesting internet memes, youtube videos, and Archer references to kick off your conversations. But I am not very internet-savvy and not very current on cultural norms, so I suspect I'll be doing some quick interesting thoughts on whatever books I'm currently reading (Basque history & St. Patrick), whatever music currently moves me (James Brown), or whatever months-old internet meme I just found out about (Shit Girls Say). I hope to accomplish a miniature version of a poor man's "10 reasons why Iowa will lose to..." that Stoops pulls off so eloquently.
Here's the overall plan: Mexican't and myself will be putting up new Hamsterdam posts roughly every other day and bumping the most recent one to the top every night for all of you denizens to go crazy. We hope that more regularity also helps to clean up the streets of BHGP with a quick "Take it to Hamsterdam" when things get a little off-topic. Yes, we're just as guilty of this as you are. But the Mayor and the Comptroller of Hamsterdam want this place to thrive.
So to recap:
1) More Hamsterdam posts, more regularly
2) This is RossWB:
3) This is The Mexican't:
4) This is therealCatnuts:
5) We would greatly appreciate your help finding for us this lovely young lady:

therealCatunuts, the State Comptroller Atkins of BHGP
HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
I think Ross is Comptroller Atkins.
Catnuts is Super Nintendo Chalmers.
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
And I suppose that would have to make The Mexican't Skinner
So Hamsterdam could become a Chalmskinn Production.
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
It's like looking into a mirror!
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
That looks nothing at all like Ross.
Ross has a beard.
Bucketochicken - February 8, 2012
And usually wears an old-timey fedora
while smoking a cigar. And is a lot hairier in general
HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
I think this is what Bunny Colvin would look like with beard and fedora
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
The pic comes complete with Ross's Minnesota build!
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
That's definitely Ross.
Good find.
The Mexican't - February 8, 2012
Congrats on the election, Mr. Mayor.
Strippers all around!
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
I can't believe they got the name wrong.
That should clearly read BaRoss Davis. The “Ba” obviously stands for “Beard aficionado”.
The Mexican't - February 8, 2012
Why I oughta...
RossWB - February 8, 2012
He is what we call Rossing.
Give Eddie a Beer - February 8, 2012
'Ross' is going to have many definitions in that BHGP glossary
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
Who says?
Just call me Webster, ’cause I am developmentally stunted, black, living with Alex Karras, and I know the meanings to ALL.THE.WORDS
Lycurgus - February 8, 2012
Is that a plaid/checked safari hat, with bullets?
WaterlooChazz - February 8, 2012
Are those bullets instead of feathers?
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 9, 2012
Damnit, I'm copying Chazz posts accidentally again.

I just want to hit pause on the world for a month just so I can feel what it is like to be caught up with everything.
The Final Gun - February 8, 2012
Is this a quote from "The Wire"?
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
Uh, I don't think so.
Just a general expression of anxiety.
I watched The Wire a few years ago. What an incredible series.
The Final Gun - February 8, 2012
I'm almost done with season 2.
One episode left. So good. So incredibly good.
Bucketochicken - February 8, 2012
Is S2 the shipyard season?
The Mexican't - February 8, 2012
Yes.
I loved that they completely started from scratch in Season 2 and had an entirely different angle and cast. It took me until episode 3 or so before I realized that Avon and Stringer weren’t coming around anytime soon.
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
Yeah, I really liked S2.
I think the wife gave up in S3 (politics…maybe?) and I never resumed my momentum.
The Mexican't - February 8, 2012
You gave up on Tommy Carcetti?????
How dare you!
And Season 4 was the best season in my opinion, so you really should get back in. It followed the high-school age kids, whether they were in high school or working the corners. Amazing.
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
Yeah, everyone loves Season 4.
The elementary age kids, too.
tyger1147 - February 8, 2012
This is complete blasphemy, I know
I hated Carcetti.
the notorious r.d.m. - February 8, 2012
I have it all on HBO-GO (their streaming dealy), so it's easy to maintain momentum & keep up with it.
Bucketochicken - February 8, 2012
Yeah. We've got the DVD box set. I've really no excuses except that we only have one TV downstairs.
I’m not cruel enough to banish her to the upstairs TV.
The Mexican't - February 8, 2012
I bought the box set a while ago from Ebay.
I recently burned through the first four seasons at about a pace of 1/week. Then I got to Season 5…I got through a few episodes and have kind of lost interest.
HawKCP - February 8, 2012
Yeah.
The entire storyline starts with a window.
Brilliant.
Bucketochicken - February 8, 2012
I remember it starting on the dock with the foreman's kid fucking up unloading something

I'm in the middle of season 2 right now
curse my parents for not having hbo when this show was on. It’s incredible

So, the basketball game is still tomorrow right?
Two separate places on the Gazette website say the game is tonight.
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
Yes, trust Hawkeyesports.com
Give Eddie a Beer - February 8, 2012
I'm gonna be a little pissed if it was tonight.
And the band will be short one sousa. So I hope not.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012

Try winning without a tuba player, jerks!
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
Dammit.
Well played, sir. Now who will lead “Hey, Baby”?
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
Our band.
Wait, is this a road game?
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 9, 2012
No, it's tomorrow.
Not really a fan of this stretch of the schedule, though. Game on Saturday, then a game on Thursday, then no game until next Thursday… bah. Too much downtime.
RossWB - February 8, 2012
So I got to spend my entire day in a bunch of scientific talks today
without a chance to check in on the presser. Can I get a quick new coaching roster? I’m sure I can go find it if you fine folks don’t wanna help a fella out, but I’m lazy. So I’m coming to you first
6 seconds of hell - February 8, 2012
Same as the old roster after a game of musical chairs.
Plus maybe Brian Ferentz.
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
Thanks
So I didn’t miss too much
6 seconds of hell - February 8, 2012
Nope, it's just like it was
two months ago
HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
Ross had a good quick recap that I'm going to copy-paste here
I think it was…
HC – Ferentz
OC/QBs – KOK
WR – Campbell
RB – Erb
TE/recruit – Johnson
OL – Morgan
DC – N Parker
DL – Woods
LB – Wilson
DB – P Parker
ST – Wilson
Now it appears to be:
HC – Ferentz
OC – ?
QBs – ?
WR – Campbell
RB – Erb
TE/recruit – Johnson
OL – ?
DC – P Parker
DL – Morgan
LB – ?
DB – Wilson
ST – Wilson?

SantosL.Halper - February 8, 2012
How's the book on Basque history?
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
Pretty decent.
It’s Kurlansky, so it’s an easy read as he’s a better writer than most historians, but for some reason it feels just a little flat. I think Amazon’s readers have it just about correct at a 3.5-star aggregate review
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
$1.57 on Amazon, you say?
Purchased. I’m looking forward to perusing it.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
I think I paid about 8 bucks to have it on my Kindle app
I haven’t read a physical book in many moons now.
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
Someday I'll consider a Kindle.
But I kind of aspire to have one of those professional-looking bookshelves someday.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
I hear ya. There's some sort of nerd vanity that only a full bookshelf can cover
I’ve long had enough books to fill an entire room of bookshelves, I have kind of an incurable lust for reading. Maybe because I didn’t have a TV for almost a decade, but probably just because I don’t have enough friends.
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
Exactly.
I’m trying to rekindle that reading thing… A couple years of college beat the “read-for-pleasure” side out of me, but getting into the upper-level history and poli sci classes in subjects I like has led me to actually stop and enjoy a book once in a while.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
This.
I’ve always been a slow reader, but college kicked my ass with reading (I’d even read school books at the bar, and then in the morning I’d re-read the last two chapters from the night before, because I didn’t remember them- except on Thursday nights because that was Laundry Night, meaning $0.25 long islands/rum & cokes/screwdrivers @ The Union and we’d be so drunk, with leftover laundry money, so quickly that reading was pointless- I guess I didn’t read during FAC either- mostly it was just Sun-Wed, and no I didn’t go out every week or every day or anything).
Anyway.
My point was “This.”
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 9, 2012
About 5 days before I was leaving for China, I still had the same idea.
Then, I thought, “I want to take that book. I want to take this book. I want to take that book.” I was up to ten books before I gave in. When I got the Kindle, I learned that ANY AND EVERY book that was out of copyright… was free. That led to roughly 150-175 classics near-immediately downloaded. Then I learned of bittorrents and got another 1000 books for free (i.e. illegally). I do not “need” to buy another book for a looooong time.
My friend who has been here for 6 years has collected about 100+ books, getting them from people as they went home and didn’t want to take the books. She, too, is Kindle-averse.
tyger1147 - February 8, 2012
And the ease from which one can switch from author-to-author, era-to-era, genre-to-genre...
…makes reading a lot more accessible for an ADHD man like myself.
tyger1147 - February 8, 2012
My roommate gets pissed at me
as I’m a bathroom reader as well, and currently have 5 books stacked up in there, each marked in its own particular place. I’m an ADHD reader as well, just a little lower and less technically inclined, I suppose.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
My local libraryi
is chock full of free books. And I don’t have to buy the kindle. I also enjoy goodwill. 50 cents and you just redonate when you’re done.
Flakbait - February 8, 2012
Does that title mean you have more than one local library?
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
HA
I sort of do. A lot of the libraries have a deal where you can use your card from one at all the others.
Flakbait - February 8, 2012
They're not free
you’re supposed to return them after you’ve read them.
HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
When you find me an English-speaking local library in Shanghai...
…you can come over on your high horse and show me the way to it.
tyger1147 - February 8, 2012
A horse (high or not) would probably die in the middle of the ocean (or somewhere along the way).
And it would never fit in the overhead compartment.
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 9, 2012
Sort of in the Goodwill theme,
I have found some pretty good sports books at Dollar Tree (so they are $1 per book).
I’ve bought:
Game of Shadows (about Barry Bonds and BALCO)
Running for My Life (Warrick Dunn autobiography)
A Lion’s Tale (Chris Jericho’s book)
And a couple of books by John Feinstein (I think they were “The Punch,” and “Open” about the US Open in golf.)
WaterlooChazz - February 8, 2012
We have a beautiful set of bookshelves
Filled with Mr. Girleye’s collection of fantasy hardcovers & my murder-mystery/suspense-type mostly hardcovers. And bins & bins of books in storage. At our old house we built shelves tall enough to have one of those cool library ladders. (& that is the one & only thing I miss about that house!)
It wasn’t hard at all switching to Kindles/iPads for reading. The sheer convenience of having access to the book I’m currently reading & the ability to download more books without moving my ass from the couch conquers all, especially when we’re away for the summer. The library & tiny bookstore just can’t compare (& yes, that’s really very sad). Also with our 9 y/o devouring books & having the tendency to let me know at bedtime that ‘OMG, I need another book!’, it’s saved me many headaches & frustrations.

A couple housekeeping items in case people have questions:
1) Mexican’t and I are not official authors or editors, so don’t be looking for articles outside of Hamsterdam from us. We’ll leave that to the experts

2) We do not have banhammer priveleges. That will continue to be the domain of Jacobi, Vint, and Ross
3) Yes, Mexican’t does indeed have a beautiful figure under that Mayor sash:
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
FYI, if you google "Mayor sash"
there pop up plenty of pictures of Tyler Sash. I think he now needs to have a nickname related to somebody that would wear a sash.
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012

SomeJerkPoster - February 8, 2012

chitownhawkeye - February 8, 2012

6 seconds of hell - February 8, 2012
Occasionally
I saw that one episode where they went into a house, got a bunch of “spooky” readings but didn’t find the ghost
HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
I'm watching one right now
and they did the “flashlight test.” It’s where they set a flashlight so that the slightest touch will turn it on. They then ask the “ghost” to turn it on for yes and nothing for no. I’m not sure what to make of it

SomeJerkPoster - February 8, 2012
No.
Just no.
At least ghosts may exist.
The girls who “fall in love” with the guy in no time, and have no problem when he makes out with several other chics, well that’s not even plausible unless the final episode is the winner stalking and killing each and every girl that kissed her new man.
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 9, 2012
I believe they just stalk and kill their new "fiancee" instead
when they watch the new season months later. The reunion shows are always filled with this tension. “YOU WENT TO THE FANTASY SUITE WITH HOW MANY OF THESE GIRLS?!?!?!?”
therealCatnuts - February 9, 2012
So....every episode of Ghost Hunters, you say?
hkobb7 - February 8, 2012
I think that was implied.
Kind of like saying “I saw that one episode of House where they thought the patient had something simple, but the treatment nearly killed them, and then at the end House miraculously figured it out and saved them. Oh, and House also said something racist and mean.”
DrHenryKillinger - February 9, 2012

txhawkeye - February 8, 2012
Ya they do
A professor I know likes to say “if a question is worth answering, fucking answer it!” You can’t tell me SyFy can’t afford more gear (thermal cameras and such). They should just put this gear on the guys heads so that there isn’t anymore of this “I hope we caught that on camera” shit.

HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
Wasn't at every Georgetown game
when Austin was there (before he transferred to Indiana)
HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
About a month ago I looked up Duke vs UNC tickets
just to see what you’d have to pay to see it at Cameron Indoor.
The difference between tickets to this game in Chapel Hill vs Durham would blow your fucking mind.
The most expensive ticket in Chapel Hill was somewhere around $500. The least expensive ticket in Durham was somewhere around $1300.
HawKCP - February 8, 2012
Well,
Cameron’s capacity is around 10k, UNC’s is around 21k.
WaterlooChazz - February 8, 2012
This fantasy basketball season is an example of my "problem"
With fantasy sports.
mikjones24 - February 8, 2012
Danilo Galinari, Andrea Bargnani, Manu Ginobili
I am never again drafting players with names ending in “i”.
HawKCP - February 8, 2012
Fixed.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
"is problem"?
And I thought you went to the smartypants school…
RossWB - February 8, 2012
The "a" in "an" is not crossed out.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
I guess it isn't.
You’re off the hook… this time.
RossWB - February 8, 2012
Yessssssssss.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
Sit back, play Bulls TV drinking game.
Hello, Wednesday night.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
I had the Bulls game on earlier.
Will Ferrell’s lineup introductions were incredibly weak.
HawKCP - February 8, 2012
Ah, I just tuned in about 10 minutes ago.
My roommate and I drink every time Stacey King uses a nickname or says something ridiculous.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
Turkish Hammer and White Mamba
Should count for two. Because they’re so awesome.
One Night Stanzi - February 8, 2012
White Mamba
automatically equals finish your drink. It made for a long night last Saturday when I was in Urbana-Champaign and had just poured myself a fresh one when he came in the game.
Then again, getting my own Fishbowl at the Firehaus probably did that too.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
Aaaaaand there was a Turkish Hammer dunk.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
Does he do anything else on offense?
Dunk, rebound, and make blocks. That’s all he can do.
One Night Stanzi - February 8, 2012
Are you questioning the Turkish Hammer?!
(By the way—I’m a T-Pups fan, I just watch these games because my roommate’s a fan and I like drinking.)
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
I wouldn't dream of it.
And I’m not a fan, either. I just live in IL and Bulls games are always on.
One Night Stanzi - February 8, 2012
Haha then we are in the exact same position.
And a little “BEEP BEEP” to finish the drink.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
GHOSTRIDER 2?
NO. THAT’S A BAD NICHOLAS CAGE. NO.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
You can try rubbing his face in it but he'll never learn
YouCanPutYourEddsInIt - February 8, 2012
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD NICHOLAS CAGE!
E.G. CONAIR!
Argulor - February 8, 2012
Duke rebounds about as well as Iowa.
HawKCP - February 8, 2012
Just realized that my assignment and midterm for one class are on the 23rd, and not the 16th
this means I can procrastinate even more. Time to bring on the 21st birthday weekend
hithisisryan - February 8, 2012
That feeling is MUCH BETTER than the converse.
SomeJerkPoster - February 8, 2012
Speaking of HBO shows
has anyone been watching Luck?
HawKCP - February 8, 2012
I watched part of what I think was the first episode
on HBO free weekend.
I was unimpressed.
WaterlooChazz - February 8, 2012
I watched most of episode 1, did not go back for episode 2. Shoulda, coulda.
txhawkeye - February 8, 2012
Not interested in discussing the politics of this
but Rick Santorum’s big wins this week were fueled by a huge donation from a multi-millionaire named “Foster Friess”. That is a yummy name.
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
LOL, somebody trolled wikipedia and put in there that he's owner of Foster's Freeze
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
Wow, awesome ending to the UNC/Duke game.
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
Dammit.
I turned away when Duke was down by 11.
WaterlooChazz - February 8, 2012
Yeah it was at 10 with like 1:50 left.
I’m not sure what UNC’s defense was doing at the end; it was blatantly obvious that Rivers was going to shoot a three there.
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
I'm starting to think Prater is a problem at DB
mikjones24 - February 8, 2012
Is it time to fire Ferentz?
therealCatnuts - February 8, 2012
No. It's time to hire, Ferentz.
Seriously, let’s get an OC within two weeks this time.
WaterlooChazz - February 8, 2012
There's a better chance of the temperature hitting 60
In Iowa City than that happening.
mikjones24 - February 8, 2012
Huh?
HoyaGoon - February 8, 2012
That fucking Scout ad.
RossWB - February 8, 2012
she works at hills bank on clinton. I am not lieing
harvhawk - February 8, 2012
Um
Wut?
mikjones24 - February 8, 2012
I think it would be a really awesome BHGP meme
for people to start new accounts and have random, mid-conversation statements as their first post.
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
or just random non-sequiturs in the middle of open threads
look at the stratification. it’s clearly sedimentary
KilometersDavis - February 8, 2012
I'm guessing Harv got a text and a comment on his phone mixed up.
Sometimes, I’m glad I use a MacBook for BHGP.
WaterlooChazz - February 8, 2012
Yeah.
I’m thinking it was whatever that all about Maria Bartitromo was about.
MNWildcat - February 8, 2012
hooray for more hdam
SaturdayMorningKegStanzis - February 8, 2012
This makes me excited
Can you say bacon?
White Lightning - February 8, 2012
yay the link worked
White Lightning - February 8, 2012
Rutgers and Syracuse might play home and away next year -- in football.
(via)
RossWB - February 8, 2012
Am I the only one who thinks that is retarded?
Why not just play the Yankee Stadium game, and then use the other spot on the schedule to let the teams schedule some decent OOC opponents?
WaterlooChazz - February 9, 2012
Probably because most other teams already have their 2012 schedules set?
RossWB - February 9, 2012
Man...
…just watched the new NOVA. I wept … like a baby … that thing was so fucking sad.
Sorry, it’s just there are no PBS forums and I had to say it somewhere.
That is all.
hawk4trees - February 8, 2012
Was that the one where they discussed the heat death of the universe?
Entropy makes me sad.
DrHenryKillinger - February 9, 2012
Looks like it was
the one about separation of conjoined twins.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/separating-twins.html
WaterlooChazz - February 9, 2012
Question for you all
Would you be interested in a “Introduction Thread”? The good folks over at WAGNH (We Ain’t Got No History, a blog for Chelsea fans) did one a couple weeks back, I think its great way to better get to know one another.
Link
Just wanted to put a feeler out there, if there is enough of a positive response I’ll put up a Fanpost in the next few days.
White Lightning - February 8, 2012
It’d probably be entertaining as all get out.
txhawkeye - February 9, 2012
Ok I'll get the ball rolling.
Hi, I’m DrHenryKillinger, and chicks dig me, because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it’s usually something unusual. But now I know why I have always lost women to bloggers like you. I mean, it’s not just the bad photoshops. It’s the stories that you tell. So much fun and imagination.
HFMR, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy. If the two of us together, forget it. I’m gonna go out on a limb here. I’m gonna volunteer my leadership to this blog. A blogosphere without leaders is like a foot without a big toe. And Jacobi isn’t always gonna be here to be that big toe for us. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest buddy, and big toe… therealCatnuts
DrHenryKillinger - February 9, 2012
Hi. My name's WaterlooChazz. My friends call me Chazz.
You might have noticed that, uh, I’ve got a slight weight problem. Yeah, yeah I do. Yeah, I do. I went to this doctor. Well, he told me I swallow a lot of aggression… along with a lot of pizzas! Ha Ha Ha! Pizzas!
I’m basically a shy person, I’m a shy guy. Uh, the doctor suggested taking one these uh, aggression training courses. You know these aggression training courses like EST, those type of things. Anyway, it cost 400 bucks! 400 bucks to join this thing?
Well I didn’t have the money and I thought to myself, “Join BHGP”! It’s free. So I figured while I’m here I’ll make a few comments. And you got what, gamethreads and Hamsterdam here? Real tough ones. Which is perfect for me. I’m going to walk out of here a Lean, Mean, Commentin’ Machine! Ha ha ha ha.
WaterlooChazz - February 9, 2012
I, for one, welcome our new Ham'dam overlords.
I’d like to remind them that as a trusted member of the BHGP commentariat, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground comment caves.
// seriously, congrats to both therealCatnuts and The Mexican’t
Lukateake - February 9, 2012
First the fruit picking and meat packing
and now the Mexicans are stealing good blog posting jobs from hard working Americans
Lycurgus - February 9, 2012
C'mon, Americans DON'T want those ignominious jobs...
… and at such meager (nonexistent!) wages. Plus, for the esteem factor, blog poster is at least one step below the Dalits.
I know from experience.
Lukateake - February 9, 2012
That top post says "Tuesday, February 10"
But tomorrow is February 10 and it is definitely not going to be Tuesday. Unless the future extended my workweek by 4 days. In that case, I really hate the future.
therealCatnuts - February 9, 2012
That's post is five years old.
/ wow, how time flies
// when are you moving in, early March?
/// congrats on the “promotion” to Ham’dam general.
Lukateake - February 9, 2012
That's mayor, sir, not general.
If we’d made him a general before Ly, there would have been a full-on insurrection in the BHGP ranks.
RossWB - February 9, 2012
And probably set off an Alphabet Generals game too.
EnergizerHawk - February 9, 2012
It pains me
that Rambler no longer haunts these pages
Lycurgus - February 9, 2012
Is he still taking time off after the Paterno thing or is he maybe done for good?
therealCatnuts - February 9, 2012
He's been here once or twice since then.
I expect him to be running a “General Paterno/Dutch Country Bed And Breakfast” themed blog by the end of summer.
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 9, 2012
Ross
He can be general if I am still in the running for Consul. I had a dream that I climbed a high cliff and when I reached a Hawkeye nest, I saw seven eggs laid therein. That probably means I will have seven consulships (ala Marius) or Iowa has seven individuals champs at nationals this year.
Lycurgus - February 9, 2012
But I see 8 national champs! Your dream is too pessimistic.
125 McDonough
133 Ramos
141 Marion
157 DSJ
165 Evans
174 Lofthouse
184 Gambrall
HWT Telford
therealCatnuts - February 9, 2012
The Mayor lands in Chicago right around March 1st, hopefully
I’m driving the U-Haul on I-40 through the desolation of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas after leaving on 2/27, so there are distinct possibilities that not only will it take longer than expected, but also that I kill myself from boredom on the worst drive in the world.
therealCatnuts - February 9, 2012
One Spring Break, we went to Phoenix.
I pulled the shift from Tulsa to Tucumcari, NM. and was behind the wheel from about 1:00am to sunrise.
// an existential peyote-like trip w/o the drugs
Lukateake - February 9, 2012
I have driven from Iowa City to NYC and back without a stereo (was stolen the week before)
I would do that 10 times again before doing this drive. I really am dreading it. I hate that part of the country. I know some people find peace or serenity in the desert, I find interminable boredom.
therealCatnuts - February 9, 2012
THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE A KINDLE!
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 9, 2012
Any tips on how to teach my dog how to drive?
And remember, I have to leave in two weeks.
therealCatnuts - February 9, 2012
New Mexico is not my cup of tea,
but I really like driving through Arizona. I realize the parts of AZ I like most (where you go from desert to forest to desert to canyons) is north of where you might be.
West Texas is pretty much as Ly describes it. Oklahoma isn’t very cool. The parts of Arkansas I remember most were the flattest shit I’ve ever seen, but I’m not sure if that is I-40, or not. The drive in Tennessee is not boring, IIRC (some pretty steep shit near the mountains, I think). I’ve never been to Carolina.
WaterlooChazz - February 9, 2012
Actually, I just looked at a map of I-40,
I’d think there could be some nice parts of AZ near there.
WaterlooChazz - February 9, 2012
Holy shitballs, I was wrong about Tulsa -- I started in Wichita, KS.
Hwy 54 makes a long arc westward across Kansas before dipping through the panhandle of Oklahoma and catching the top corner of Texas and on into New Mexico.
That was the flatest, boringest drive I have ever made. All I remember is that you could hold a ruler up to all the blinking lights over the wellheads on the vast, vast, vast horizon.
Lukateake - February 10, 2012
I've done that drive (US 54)
both of the last two years for the Insight Bowl. It is rather boring. Bring an I-Pod or CDs, because radio west of Wichita is quite limited.
The towns between Wichita and Albuquerque don’t seem very fun.
WaterlooChazz - February 10, 2012
WOOOO.
Watching Game of Thrones on HBO on Demand. Yesssss.
