Seriously.

I would like to kick 12-year-old me in the ass
for helping Right Said Fred reach any level of fame.
While I’m at it, might as well kick myself for the Rico Suave guy and Snow too.

Forcibly being made to watch The Bachelor on DRV right now...

I have grown to love The Bachelor

Ok. Hate this show.
Game of Thrones, World War II, anything football, I’m back.

It's not a fault.
Unless addiction is a fault. Then maybe it is.
therealCatnuts - February 6, 2012
I've been known to like some shitty shit,
but The Bachelor is the shittiest shit in the history of shit.
Dr. Hawk - February 6, 2012
But you get involved enough and you're hooked
Kinda like Right Said Fred, I guess
therealCatnuts - February 6, 2012
I think you need to see a deprogrammer
KilometersDavis - February 6, 2012
Nah. At least it's positive in nature
I would take 50 more shows like this over another The Soup ripoff that just has mean, smarmy jokes.
therealCatnuts - February 6, 2012
But I have to say the hit ratio is ridiculously awful
They have 1 marriage in 22 seasons now. I’m pretty certain the marriage rate is higher for one-night-stands that start at Brothers.
therealCatnuts - February 6, 2012
Change Brothers to Coconut Joe's in West Des Moines
and I would be a winner.
Feelin' Orney - February 6, 2012
I'll bet she was probably before #22
better hit ratio!

Does anyone know if Sonic is still closed in Coralville?
I understand DQ closing for the winter, but Sonic shutting down confused me.
KilometersDavis - February 6, 2012
Yep, it's closed for good
There was an article in the … Gazette, I think? Let me see if I can find it. Yep, here it is:
Sonic restaurants close in Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Waterloo
rosalita - February 6, 2012
Oh wow, the last time I drove by the one on the strip it said "closed for the season"
Maybe they’ll put something better in.
/prays for Jack in the Box
KilometersDavis - February 6, 2012
Ironically, the Coralville DQ is now open
Wait, is that irony? Unless it involves hair combs or watches, I’m never sure.
rosalita - February 6, 2012
It's certainly a coincidence.
To quote Bender, “The use of words expressing something other than their literal intention . . . That, friends, is irony.”

I had no clue that the Waterloo Sonic was closed.
I had been there once or twice in the first few months it was open (a couple of years ago), and never really went back.
WaterlooChazz - February 6, 2012
I was so excited when the Coralville Sonic opened
Talk about a place that didn’t live up to its marketing campaign. The only thing I’ll miss are the limeades.

On a different note
Is that Italian place off Riverside still open (over by that Pancheros)? Zio Johnos…or something like that.
That place had great food, and what I assumed was a mom/daughter combo with the drack curly hair….just wow
BoiseHawk - February 6, 2012
Yep, Zio Johnos has a few locations in the corridor I think.

silkhawk - February 7, 2012

Lycurgus - February 7, 2012
And outside the arena, what kind of food are you looking for?
There’s so many places to go in St. Paul that you’ll enjoy getting fatter at that the list needs to be narrowed down.
WhiteSpeedReceiver - February 6, 2012
Something I haven't had up there, which is mostly everything.
I’ve been to Gasthof’s (awesome) and 5-8 Club, Sally’s, Brasa (which Adam Richman personally recommended to us after a show)… so mostly Minneapolis, haven’t really been to St. Paul. Burgers and pizzas are good, I like unique type places.
Give Eddie a Beer - February 6, 2012
Burgers: The Blue Door off Selby & Fairview has Juicy Lucys, tater tots, and a solid beer lineup. It also has enough room for about 8 people at a time. Eagle Street Saloon across the street from the X has a huge menu, too. And the downside is, of course, it’s across the street from the X.
Along with Black Sheep, you’ll also be right down the street from Cosetta’s. Pizza and a great lineup of Italian food. The downside is that people know it’s there. The lines/waits can be astonishing.
WhiteSpeedReceiver - February 6, 2012
Blue Door is amazing.
The Nook/Ran-Ham Lanes is king shit, though.
Smokin Herb Grigsby - February 6, 2012
Agreed, but...
Lunch in the old office used to be “Let’s go to the Nook” followed by “Jesus, we’ll never get in there. How about either Blue Door or Groveland Tap?”
WhiteSpeedReceiver - February 6, 2012
It is nearly impossible to find a seat, this is true.
That’s why the Ran-Ham secret is great. You can usually find a seat there way easier, and it’s super blast from the past and has the dummy-waiter that goes up to the Nook kitchen.
But yeah, I hear ya. It’s just as hard to get a table at Blue Door now, cause the place is so tiny. And Groveland has become my watering hole.
Smokin Herb Grigsby - February 6, 2012
Yes, this.
The Groveland Tap was oft the less-desired final destination when the Blue Door was full up. They do a good fish fry.
Third Generation Hawk - February 7, 2012
Man, all this talk of Blue Door is making me want to go back there...
RossWB - February 6, 2012
We still gotta grab a beer now that I live in the Cities...
It could be a combo effort.
Smokin Herb Grigsby - February 6, 2012
That sounds like an excellent idea.
RossWB - February 6, 2012

And I have plenty in the fridge, but I’d have to get up and WALK about 20’. That sounds… exhausting.

i eat there all the time. Full bar now, the pizza oven they brought over from Europe. Always packed but service is fast.
Any of you are ever here, gimme a holler.
The Bird Cult - February 6, 2012
Cosetta's if you need to stay close
But the Grovelsnd Tap always makes me happy. But not really for the food.
YouCanPutYourEddsInIt - February 6, 2012
I still haven't been to Gasthof's
I need to rectify that.
RossWB - February 6, 2012
Have you eaten at Cecil's?
I swear by that place, and living 6 blocks away from it is NOT easy on the pocket.
Smokin Herb Grigsby - February 6, 2012
Hmm
This place? I have not.
RossWB - February 6, 2012
Yup.
Once you walk through the door, you’re sent through a warp pipe to the Lower East Side. It’s a classic Jewish deli with amazing breads and meats, and the sandwiches are super good.
Smokin Herb Grigsby - February 6, 2012

I don’t know if this came up anywhere else in the last few days, but the ‘86-’87 basketball team made a music video called Shirts and Skins. The viewing of this is required.

The Bird Cult - February 6, 2012
If anyone cares, I cut 3:18 off of my 10K time from last April
57:07… not a bad finish, first race of the year, and first race as a 50 year old (gulp). Upside is I finished right in the middle of the pack in my age group – 17/35 – and (they need to sort the official results better) likely the top 1/3 of 1,000 runners.
I’m on target to put my half marathon time back under 2 hours where it belongs… although I was so tired after my race I laid down for a short nap and slept through the whole darn Superbowl…
The Bird Cult - February 6, 2012
Well done, sir.
WaterlooChazz - February 6, 2012

The Bird Cult - February 6, 2012
Ok, guys, the GF is driving me batshit crazy...
Paint samples. its hell. This all started when she decided that the house (which is hers, so I really can’t complain there) needed more light, new ceiling fans, painting, and that she wanted a new facade on the fireplace.
So she found a contractor, and then dragged me all over fucking Sacramento looking at stone and brick. Do I care? Well, the old facade was ass ugly – a stucco looking DIY job of the previous owner, and when they started tearing it apart, they found out that it was a 1/2" of stucco on top of… concrete and chicken wire. They had to bring in jackhammers to bust it up (I can’t imagine holding a jackhammer sideways on a ladder against a wall either, but I was at work when they did it).
So, she gets about 28 different shades of paint samples and wants some kind of blah tan that she’s going to paint the entire house. I find a warm dark mustard gold that’s gorgeous and I’ve spent the last three days with her painting samples of the two colors all over the house, next to the new stone fireplace (she went with my stone recommendation, although she keeps saying “this is a 1940s house” – I keep pointing out there ARE NO RULES ON THESE THINGS), and flip flopping between the two colors.
All of her coworkers hate the darker tan/beige/ick, I’m not wild about it, but I think I’ve finally managed to talk her into the warmer dark yellow mustard. Its fucking exhausting to deal with this shit, and I’m ready to start wondering what gun metal tastes like if this goes on any longer. The facelift/painting should be done in a week or so… thank God.
The Bird Cult - February 6, 2012
I'm serious too - I don't think I can stand to look at any more paint...
The Bird Cult - February 6, 2012
did you try the age-old trick of choosing the most god-awful option?
Or does she know you aren’t really that helpless?
Brock Sampson - February 6, 2012
Unfortunately she's a smart girl
Her real issue is the money she’s dropping, not the paint. She just spent 4 grand on landscape lighting in the front and back yards (all LED – there’s a jillion lights and it uses the equivalent of 1 1/2 100 watt bulbs – that’s pretty cool and it looks really, really nice).
The fireplace+electric (two new ceiling fans and recessed lights in 2 of 3 bedrooms, plus some new outlets)+painting all of the rooms except the main bathroom comes to 10 grand.
So her real issue is spending the money and not the paint itself.
The Bird Cult - February 6, 2012
And I think it's gonna be a long long time...
Before touchdown brings me round again to find that we still haven’t named a defensive coordinator oh no no no.
