Rutgers doing a solid job of closing on kids after Schiano leaving.

Can we call them names if they DO choose Iowa?

Thank you for this by the way
These are 18 year olds making what is probably to date the single biggest decision of their lives. It is completely natural for them to struggle with it. Losing your shit because some kid doesn’t want to play sports for the school you root for is just silly.

which 2 years ago, would have been impossible, now days, i wonder if Oxford in Englad could joing the B1G
waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
Delany wants the $
Rutgers is getting to be a fairly popular program and it brings in East Coast money.
HawkeyeFrake - February 1, 2012
Actually, Rutgers (it was revealed by Matt Hinton I believe) is one of the biggest money losers in all of college football
and it’s athletic department is not self-sufficient. They pay for football with student fees. I am surprised by this because their attendance is rising but apparently they get no donor money. So, if all this is accurately reported, Delany probably wouldn’t stand in a lunch line with anyone from Rutgers.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
Does Rutgers have a pretty large enrollment?
It would be easier to charge every student a $50 fee if you have a ton of students, compared to if you are a smaller school and charge every student $100+ (I think that’s roughly what UNI did when I went there).
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012
Universities charging students fees is a major problem
from an accounting standpoint. Yes, it’s a large school but it’s an admission of failure to charge every student a fee for football. Only about 20% even care for it and the fee entitles them to nothing, other than having a football program that loses money. You charge students fees for things they need and all use.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
Ah.
I guess the fee I paid at UNI could be more accurately described as an “athletics fee”, and we did get “free” tickets to most UNI home games. I enjoyed it most when UNI got good after they moved to the McLeod Center. I only made use of it a few times for UNI football games (as I was going to Hawkeye games more often then).

waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
No 5 star.
As much as I am happy that we brought a lot of good players this year, I would like to see one 5 star, just one. And don’t tell me it’s location. Lincoln, State College and Madison are not hotbeds of excitement. Whomever we bring as D-Coordinator should be a recruiting stud.
HawkeyeFrake - February 1, 2012
you think its this Hermann guy?
waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
I don't think so.
My money is on Bradley or Parker. Leaning toward Parker after he brought in Draper.
HawkeyeFrake - February 1, 2012
There are a only a fairly small handful of 5* propsects each year
Even the very best recruiting schools only get two or three a year. None of those teams you mentioned have signed one this year either, and we’re very competitive with them in terms of 4*s (which is a very good rating), depending on what happens with Kozan. It’s a good class.
Location is a big limitation on our recruiting, but so is the school’s history and brand value. We’re fairly comparable to Wisconsin (who is not out-recruiting us) in that regard, but we’re pretty far from Penn State (the only real super power in the entire Northeast) or Nebraska.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
On Scout.com, it's strictly relative. 50 5-stars every year.
tyger1147 - February 1, 2012
Also in-state recruits
Wisco has a lot bigger pool of in state talent so they are more likely to get a 5 star out of that. Nebraska is the true outlier in that regard but they have a pretty glorious history to sell. Otherwise your traditional 5 star grabbers are from states that tend to produce a bunch of five stars
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
Maybe a little, but Wisconsin isn't exactly a recruiting hotbed either
But, again, they’re also not pulling in 5* kids either. Like us, their strength is in scouting and player development (especially up front), not recruiting.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Dienhart just posted that OSU/UM have combined for 5 5* recruits
The rest of the B1G = 0
So Lincoln, State College and Madison aren’t doing that much better than us (at least this year).
Ill Jukes - February 1, 2012
Are we recruiting Blood Bath Kornbrath more as a punter or a kicker?
waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
Punter, right?
Isn’t that gray shirt Aussie supposed to be the new kicker?
HawkeyeFrake - February 1, 2012
The Aussie is Johnny Mullings and is on scholarship and is a punter.
He’s got a big foot but supposedly takes too long to punt the ball – something about coming from rugby. One would think that in rugby you’re always so rushed it wouldn’t be an issue, but actually (having played rugby), you don’t kick unless you have the room, and you’re almost always running. Starting from a standstill would be a tough adjustment for a non-flyhalf.
tyger1147 - February 1, 2012
Definitely a punter from everything I've read.
But he’s got a big leg so he will have a legitimate chance at being the kick-off specialist.
tyger1147 - February 1, 2012
My kingdom for a GD touchback.

waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012

HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
Have we ever actually done that?
Generally speaking punters stick to punting here. Donahue had a huge leg and was a highly regarded kicker coming out, and they quickly shot down any talk of him doing both.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
It seems like
when we have a good punter, we keep him there, because we can always get a kicker out of high school. I say this because a kid at my high school (older than me) kicked (mostly kick-offs) for the Hawks in the mid-to-late 90s.
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012
Apparently he said he will be competing for punting and KO returns with the Aussie
per Mas Casa

A coach at a camp down there that coached both of them or something
Captain n Diet Coker - February 1, 2012
never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever trust recruiting site 40 times
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
I can confirm this
We had an assistant coach time me at 4.34 when I was a freshman—in high school. There’s a margin of error to human timing a 40 yard dash of ~0.5 seconds, and of course all the players and coaches just take the best time the kid puts up (which is half a second low) and then round down to make him more attractive because that’s in all of their best interests. And heck, I still choose to believe I was that fast in high school :-)
Only ever trust a machine-clocked 40 yard dash, which will only ever happen at the NFL combine. High school track times are the only meaningful speed indicators.

StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
Good to know.
Thought I remembered him saying (though it was more likely speculation) that if he knew K was leaving, it might have been different.
Ill Jukes - February 1, 2012
He was quoted in a Decembeer article to such effect.
But that also might be a wee bit of revisionist history on his part, too.
Lukateake - February 1, 2012
There has there has been a lot of rumbling to that effect from other players too
I’m inclined to think that it probably played a role. I think he was a good coach but by most accounts Rick was not an easy guy to deal with
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Might have been a case where a different coach had a different effect
on that situation. Other coaches might have found ways to support Raymon in IC. Maybe not, too. But if you have things pulling you away, and don’t get a good reason to stay/vibe from your position coach, it makes your choice easy.

he’s playing with a spotty O-line and no WRs and a bad offensive scheme for him. He’ll be most improved next year.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
I’d take him over Tebow thats for sure
waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
He's been to two conference finals with teams that overachieved to get there
that means something to me.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
It means he plays on teams with really good defense
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
He's usually had a couple decent-to-good RBs, too.
I don’t really expect Sanchez to win a ton of games with his arm.
His first two years were not very impressive, but also not awful for a young QB.
His stats have improved each year.
And, it appears the Jets are a locker-room (and organizational?) mess.
I’m not impressed with him, but he also hasn’t earned a demotion, IMO.
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012

Brock8144 - February 1, 2012

waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
No QB had less time in the pocket than Mark Sanchez
the whole offense was predicated on a serious running game, which never really existed. I love SG, but there are 15 or so RBs that are better than him in the NFL. Tebow would have won 2 games for the Jets last year in that offense.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
The Jets line is indeed bad

Captain n Diet Coker - February 1, 2012

waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012

It’s not often, but I remember at least a couple times he mentioned hearing shots outside. And that’s a couple times too many for me.
Captain n Diet Coker - February 1, 2012
During our scrimmage even before my freshman school year started....
…there was a drive-by about two blocks away at about 5 in the afternoon.
Two years later, there was a car backfiring during practice. Mickey Joseph (former Nebraska QB) was an assistant coach, and he sprinted towards the school, hurdled over the fence (normal yard height) with no hands, leaped from the bottom bleacher to the top (about 8 rows – it was a practice/JV field), and into our school in what would probably have been a 3.87 40-yard dash.

That was probably his biggest achievement as a coach there. Seems like the message has stuck. It also probably helps that they retained a fairly large portion of his staff, so there was still some continuity and familiarity for them.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
It seems like a backup for a lot of kids who dream of PSU
To them Rutgers is probably second best if they want to stay in the Northeast. Or Rutgers recruits with visits to NYC where you stay in a five star hotel, meet starlets and bang an expensive call girl. One of the two.
Hawkeyes - February 1, 2012
Rutgers has three pitches that they use
1) we put guys into the NFL and in upper rounds (which is true and a big time HS player will buy into the notion that Rutgers will not degrade his talent)
2) you’re mamma will see you play
3) we are a Top 50 research institution and your degree will mean a lot if you get it
That’s it. It loses more than it wins but as mentioned above, lots of talent in the state and a lot of the players that Rutgers gets is from the more urban areas and those kids couldn’t find Ohio on a map and many have literally never been to NYC which is all of 17 miles away from Newark.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012

Vinnie and Rocko want a work wit em.
Lukateake - February 1, 2012

Lukateake - February 1, 2012
Not quite sure about that – since 2000, they’ve had 7 guys taken in the first 4 rounds of the draft.
Brock8144 - February 1, 2012
That would --- would it not -- be guys, no?
Schiano didn’t turn that program around until 2005, and since then they have 6 guys taken in the first three rounds. Whereas, in that same time Penn State has 13, so they’re in the ballpark. More importantly they have 13 guys active in the NFL and Penn State has like 24. They are not destroying talent that comes their way.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
True story.
Kirk Ferentz was in Staples last night about 9:00pm (I know, late!) picking up a cartridge for his fax machine and ribbon for a dot matrix printer.
Lukateake - February 1, 2012
I think you are lying
Staples closes at 9:00.
three and out the kok story - February 1, 2012
It really is hilarious that teams still use fax machines for this
The NCAA allows them to do online, but for whatever reason almost every coach in the country insists on sticking with faxes
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Its a legal thing.
Were it not for lawyers, fax machines would’ve gone extinct sometime in 1997.
Roosevelt - February 1, 2012
Believe me, I'm aware
When I interned in the summer I always brought this up to the partners and was largely met with blank stares. A PDwhat????
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Exactly.
Me: “Cant I just scan and email that contract to you?”
Lawyer: “Sure. Why don’t you just sign it in crayon while you’re at it.”
Me: “WTF?”
Roosevelt - February 1, 2012
I had a lawyer tell me to make sure
if I ever had someone sign a contract, make them use a blue pen but I used a black one.
I understood why but it was still a little nutty.
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
I still do that
whenever I have someone in to sign documents, I insist they use blue ink
HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
So what's the reason for that?
Captain n Diet Coker - February 1, 2012
Because
it makes it much more clear that it is the original document.

Ah, gotcha

Lukateake - February 1, 2012
This has actually happened
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Like, what would happen if you sent, like, a 3000 page fax to tOSU on signing day?
I’m fax illiterate. Could they just cancel it? Cause that would be hilarious if they couldn’t actually sign anyone on signing day.
It would still happen as soon as they could get them, but the end-of-day numbers could be reported as tOSU not signing anyone at all.
Eyeheartfreedumb - February 1, 2012
Please, make this happen.
I’ll chip in on the paper. Anything to mess with fOSU.

They openly and desperately trying to get into the Big Ten two years ago. Sadly we added Nebraska instead.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Delaney wanted a home run
There were only a few options that were realistic. At least it wasn’t Notre Dame.
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
I know the BigTen rejected them.
I’m referring to the belief that they’ll regret their choice to go to the SEC and be a doormat.
I still think they should have hung in with the Big 12 till it imploded.
Lukateake - February 1, 2012
That seems like a pretty terrible idea
They probably will struggle on the field with the transition, at least initially, but the SEC is the premier football conference in the country and they’re going to be bringing in way more TV money than Mizzou is now. You jump at that chance. If someone else grabs that spot and then the Big 12 falls apart, suddenly they’re either hoping for the Big Ten to expand or again or that they can catch on with, like, the Big East or some shit.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Yeah, I think this. The Big 12 is a fucking mess. ESPN can’t sell the Longhorn Network for shit right now, A&M is gonzo, TTech is heading back to irrelevancy, I think OSU is going to be a shooting football star as soon as Gundy leaves. Mizzou was lucky the SEC wanted them, and they’ll be happy with their teevee $.

How many does Iowa have to offer?
I count 23 signed including Reid, Moss and 2 JUCO’s. B1G rules only allow 25 or up to 28 but with good reasoning. Could they apply any to last year’s number?

I have a theory.
Iowa is an unabashedly developmental program and has had considerable success placing players in NFL. This fact was widely reported this past year and the recruitniks finally got wise to the Hawkeyes’ keenness.
Lukateake - February 1, 2012
Yeah, the recent NFL draftees and FAs
have really seemed to pay off for Iowa, especially for DL, OL, and the secondary.

2 — I am not the sexiest car in the lot. True/False

Of all the offensive things I thought I'd get called out for
I never thought it would be for using the word “tranny.” Apologies, I’ll use “transvestite” from now on.
mikjones24 - February 1, 2012
I wasn't necessarily calling you out, just giving a heads up
Just from my interactions with trans people I know they find it derogatory or dehumanizing, so I try to avoid it. Not saying a word certainly does not hurt me any, and if getting rid of it makes a group that already has a hard enough time feel a little less persecuted then all the better.
Also, transsexuals and transvestites are not the same thing.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
Transsexual vs Transvestite
Aren’t they mutually exclusive? Don’t you have to be one sex to dress as another (Transvestite)? A transsexual is by definition of both sexes in some way, so cross dressing is both impossible and what they do all the time.
Hawkeyes - February 1, 2012
Yeah pretty much
Transsexual is someone who psychologically feels like one gender but is biologically the other. They may engage in what would traditionally be called cross-dressing, but in their case it’s just dressing according to the norms of the gender they most identify with.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012

I haven't seen a ton of Izzard's comedy or movies or shows.
Is he gay? Bi? Just dressing as a woman?

Dress to Kill is his most famous show, and generally the best introductory hour for his comedy. Sexie is hilarious, too. I’ve got all of his DVDs and would recommend them all. He’s not putting out much new stand-up now because he seems to have decided to pursue a job in politics.

therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
Mt Trashmore and PB Crunch
don’t hold a candle to a combo of ADM, the sewage treatment facitlity, and sickeningly sweet Aunt Jemima from Quaker when it comes to abusing the olfactory system. On a hot summer day with no wind the Southeast and Southwest parts of town can be unbearable. My eyes are watering just thinking of it. Syrup day at Quaker reeks like nothing else. But Cedar Rapids is the only place on Earth where Cap’n Crunch’s Oops, All Berries is available year round. Oops, All Berries is one of Cedar Rapids’ most redeeming qualities.

there is a small dam (maybe causing water to fall about 3 or 5 feet) in the Cedar River in Waterloo.

IC "waterfall"

Colorado is an interesting state and yet I think most of America that is well beyond it's borders think it is
a bunch of people who like to ski and wear hemp. I sense that Colorado, which I learned last night has the fewest number of votes separating the candidates of the last 4 or 5 presidential elections, is a state of extremes to a degree that is very unlike most of the Midwest (Minnesota—home of the most recognized cults in the US being excluded of course). In other words, unless he goes to school in Colorado he is going to need to adjust.
StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
"Minnesota—home of the most recognized cults in the US being excluded of course"
I was unaware of that despite living in MN for the last four years, BUT THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE.

The state where Colorado Springs and Boulder vote in the same elections. They probably each want to secede from the rest of the state because everyone is too moderate.
txhawkeye - February 1, 2012
As opposed to the state where Sioux City and Iowa City vote in the same elections?
Or Madison and Waukesha. Philadelphia and The717? Berkeley and Orange County? Austin and San Antonio? etc etc etc
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
Colorado Springs is a special circumstance
but you have a point
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
I know
I lived there for 4 years. Granted that was from 2-6 years old. Brother lives there now while he’s stationed at Carson (the same reason we lived there when my dad was in the Army). It’s a beautiful place with a definite lean to it.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
One of my step-cousins (if that's such a thing)
went to The Naval Academy. He told a story that the very first question they asked during a class-wide orientation was “How many of you are Democrats?” Less than 5% of hands went up, and to his recollection only 2 of those guys were there for year 2. That was 2002-03, but I think that mentality still remains.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
I think that survey likely suffers an extreme amount of social desirability bias among the respondents
I’ve seen numbers of around 20-25% support among the officers corps and enlisted ranks for Obama in 2008. Not to discuss politics, but here’s some decent survey data, hopefully it doesn’t cross the line since it’s just a description of survey data and not a discussion of the underlying causes for the various demographic differences withing the military and the merits of those causes.

PackerHawk - February 1, 2012

It's a stretch, sure, but Iowa isn't expecting any more recruits aside from the disappearing Kozan.
Feels pretty safe to assume the waiting game is over.
The Mexican't - February 1, 2012
not saying your dumb, but the idea that the minute a recruit, after months of recruiting, starts having 2nd thoughts, that ferentz pulls his offer, the minute that they don’t sign with Iowa on the first available signing day at an exact time

HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
yup
waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
I think you're confusing comments.
I’m not assuming that Iowa pulled his offer. All signs point to Kozan simply committing elsewhere. Auburn appears to be collecting an incredible group of OL in this class and he may simply want to follow some fellow blue chip OL. Just about every report since 11 PM last night have him going elsewhere.
The Mexican't - February 1, 2012

Michigan and the tradition

NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
It's not as if Soup's tweet was the ONLY report.
It’s an accumulation of information over almost a full day.
The Mexican't - February 1, 2012
Where are you getting that Iowa is completely out of it?
Everything I’m seeing suggests that he doesn’t know where he’s going, and that he’s back down to his original Top 3 (with Iowa/Auburn likely leading in some order).
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012
I've no confirmation that he's out. I simply said that it's probably safe to assume that he's going elsewhere.
He’d already verballed to Iowa and then he backed out. Seems to me that if Iowa were still the leader he would have gone with his initial gut-feeling and stuck with his verbal. Since he didn’t, it suggests to me that he’s no longer excited about playing at Iowa and is trying to decide which of the other 2 schools he’d rather attend.
If he ends up signing with Iowa, then great, but I don’t expect it to happen.
The Mexican't - February 1, 2012
I don't know that we're the leader, we're just still in the running
The issue is that he still doesn’t have a leader. I don’t think he backed out because he suddenly doesn’t like Iowa, I think he just got pressured into making a decision before he was completely ready.
NorseHawk - February 1, 2012

winter... french dip.. seems wamer
SaturdayMorningKegStanzis - February 1, 2012
Yeah but shouldn't he save it for a really cold day then?
Turkey is healthier.
Notclevr - February 1, 2012
its about the season as much as the weather.. can't eat Chili in the summer...
doesn’t matter how cold it gets.. i just dont want it
SaturdayMorningKegStanzis - February 1, 2012
THE HELL I CAN'T!
Notclevr - February 1, 2012
UR makin it wrong.
Go with canned chili, tortilla chips, and cheese. Very tasty, no matter when.
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012
We ate lunch outside today
It’s 64. In SE PA. On Feb 1. Of course I still went with the chicken ramen as I recover from what I’m calling the Massive Lower Torso Rebellion of 2012.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
That sounds unfortunate. It’s probably Pennsylvania’s fault
txhawkeye - February 1, 2012
No, definitely something that was brought over the bridge from Jersey.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
In fairness, stomach flu has been going around a ton in Iowa, too.
But, I suppose Cyclone fans could have brought it back from Jersey/NYC at the Pinstripe Bowl.
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012
Totally different Jersey
North and South are not the same. They meet at Princeton but are two very different entities.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
Yeah, I forgot you were in/near Philly.
Across from Trenton. South Jersey.
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012
More across from Camden (even worse)
Although Trenton is upstream. Also, they have the best city slogan ever; “Trenton Makes the World Takes”. Nothing encapsulates a one time manufacturing center and shrinking rust belt town like that. It’s just so perfect on multiple levels.
PackerHawk - February 2, 2012
I thought Camden was near there, too.
It has been about 12 or 15 years since I last visited greater Philadelphia.
WaterlooChazz - February 2, 2012
French Dip might pull your offer if you wait too long.
But the turkey sandwich sounds like a quality MAC option if your other options don’t work out for you.
kythom - February 1, 2012
I had an awesome turkey BLT today.
SomeJerkPoster - February 1, 2012
i.e. a BLT with turkey on it, not a blasphemous BLT made with turkey bacon.
SomeJerkPoster - February 1, 2012
Good
because the the latter would necessitate rescinding your Iowa-ness
HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
When it comes to pork, I am so Iowa.
SomeJerkPoster - February 1, 2012
Freedom Dip is the way to go there
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
I went with #TeamFrenchDip today, fyi.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
YES
I have influenced RossWB’s lunch. Take that everyone else….. and you guys thought caring about recruits was creepy….
SaturdayMorningKegStanzis - February 1, 2012
It was delicious.
And the potato salad was fantastic.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
I had a large (I detest Starbuck’s size names and refuse to use them) Americano for lunch and ran out of time for something to eat – now my head hurts and I’m seeing stars. I do not like when I do this to myself. Your lunch discussion is making my choices seem even more moronic.
txhawkeye - February 1, 2012
Sorry.
That was me yesterday, re: the not eating lunch thing.
And on the rare occasions I go to Starbucks, I always say large or medium. Fuck “vente” or whatever.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
They stopped correcting me when I said "medium" about 5 years ago.
I think they were getting feedback about that crap.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
I ordered a medium at McDonalds
only to be informed they didn’t have medium. Just small, large and extra large.
Well then, how about the one in the middle then chief.
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
That doesn't even make sense.
Isn’t the large then just the medium?
When marketing trumps logic…
RossWB - February 1, 2012
One would think
last weekend I got a small Dr. Pepper from Burger King and it was a freakin’ QUART.
No wonder we’re a nation of lard asses.
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
They must have thought you said "tall Dr. Pepper."
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012
got into a very confusing conversation
with the starbuck’s coffee person in the drive thru. I wanted a small, she kept correcting me to tall, which I though she meant small, etc…
Fuck Venti
The Bacon Explosion - February 2, 2012
Are you sure you didn't ask for a liter of cola?
BStylin Hawkye - February 2, 2012
This is a Hal Sparks bit.
Next, you’ll be talking about how there is no “unsweetened” tea.
WaterlooChazz - February 1, 2012
Intermittent Fasting.
Linky.
I’ve been following this protocol for a few weeks now.
Also, I’m getting a kick out of these replies because I’m enjoying my venti Americano easy-water right now!
Lukateake - February 1, 2012
Such a yuppie, this guy.
Especially with your denim revelations from yesterday.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
ohhh, I’ve refrained from commenting, again, about his denim. The things you learn …..

therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
it's just taking Auburn
a little longer than they thought to get the booster money together. Give them another 4-6 hours and the check will be covered.

Cyler Miles, top QB in the state has not shown up to schools signing day either, supposedly can’t decide between UW and USC

Not enough oxygen to make a decision.

Which UW?
WY, WA, or WI?
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
Wy Wask Wi?

Kozan can come to Iowa and get excellent line coaching
And the chance to play in the NFL…
Or he can go to Auburn and get a Yukon Denali on them 20s.
I think we know where this is going…
mikjones24 - February 1, 2012
I've heard he's more of a
FIAT man
HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
The kid lives in Castle Rock and goes to Valor, Yukon Denali and 20’s doesnt phase him, your gonna have to throw in probably a Hybrid and a couple high end escorts for him to start thinking
waterboy31321 - February 1, 2012
I thought they stopped making the Escort?
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
technically,
I beat you to that one
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
USE SARCASM FONT.
mikjones24 - February 1, 2012
...
Not sure if you and flak are serious.
mikjones24 - February 1, 2012
I can only speak for myself
No, not serious. Besides “high end Escort” would be an oxymoron. “High end escort” wouldn’t be though.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
What he said.
although “high end Escort” was the first thing that came to mind.
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
I was picturing the Escort station wagon I had when I was 16
With 20s and hydraulics.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
PackerHawk? This was you?
mikjones24 - February 1, 2012
That. Is. Awesome.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
My first true love was my 89 Mustang
Which could easily be derisively described as a high-end Escort.

(mine was a deep maroon, but this one looks a lot like an Escort)
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
That was a Mustang?
No wonder they redesigned it in the 90s…
RossWB - February 1, 2012
That's not nearly as pimped a ride
as my 1984 Renault Alliance! Feel the power baby!
HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
I first read that as Rebel Alliance.
And, well, it does kind of look like the snowspeeder from EMPIRE…
RossWB - February 1, 2012
Should have mounted a harpoon gun
on the back of mine.
Shockingly, mine did not make it until the end of high school
HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
My Mustang lasted for 10 friggin years
I kept waiting for it to die, but that 5.0 drivetrain was bulleproof. I finally traded it in when it was literally running on 5-6 cylinders (depending on the day) and still got $1,000 for it. Crazy.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
This begs the question, "What the hell were car designers thinking in the 1980s and 90s?"
hkobb7 - February 1, 2012
You mean you don't like plain and boxy?

StoopsMyAss - February 1, 2012
I have to be honest with you
unless your a high school wrestler, Iowa is a hard sell. half my classmates didnt know the difference between Iowa and Idaho.
justsomehawkeyefan - February 1, 2012
A guy in a bar up here in MPLS saw my "I" hat once and asked me if I was an Idaho Vandals fan.
He was and then proceeded to tell me how much he hated Boise State. We bonded a little over our shared dislike of the Smurf Turfers.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
no lie
one time someone saw my Iowa hoodie, but without the logo, and said “Your from Iowa, you must be really proud of Boise”
sigh….
justsomehawkeyefan - February 1, 2012
The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.
Captain n Diet Coker - February 1, 2012
It's an easier sell if you can get them on campus
Especially if they like slutty white girls.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
And who doesn't.
Flakbait - February 1, 2012
Slutty non-white girls?
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
Yep.

RossWB - February 1, 2012

I made out with a recruit on a visit who was from Montana. Also, a Purdue basketball commit. So, yeah, I resemble that remark.
Captain n Diet Coker - February 1, 2012
You made out with Casey Mac?
RossWB - February 1, 2012
Before Casey Mac's time, unfortunately
It was 2002-2003 school year (basketball player was September and other guy I think was during spring break or around there).
Captain n Diet Coker - February 1, 2012
My wife made out with a wrestling recruit
so, yeah. You’re not the only one.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
Does that Denali come loaded with Southern coeds? If so, we're SOL.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
Um, apparently you haven't heard of Auburn's "recruiting hostesses"
Oh yeah, they’re the best:

One of my L.A. friends did this type of thing for Indiana.
I think they were called the “Hoosier Hotties”. Not sure if that’s just an informal name, though.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
Informal seems likely.
I’m not sure the university would really want to put “Hoosier Hotties” on the letterhead…
RossWB - February 1, 2012
It's betther than Hoosier Ho's
Flakbait - February 1, 2012

THREAD DRIFT
Mock Pro Combat helmet redesigns for every B1G school.
I would LOL heartily if the Gophers ever used a helmet like that. Some them look OK, though.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
Iowa's seems kind of lazy
justsomehawkeyefan - February 1, 2012
Purdue, Wisconsin, and Indiana are also LOL'able
The helmets I mean.
Notclevr - February 1, 2012
I didn't mind the Purdue or Wisco ones, really.
The Indiana one was pretty bad.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
I thought Minny's was funny.
Cuz what could possibly be more BA than a giant, cute, smiling gopher on the side of the helmet?
kythom - February 1, 2012
It looks very Pedo-bear-esque
And we bring it back to Caring Is Creepy. Yay!
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
I was kind of disappointed in them
Loved the Iowa one (admittedly it’s not a huge change). The only others I really liked were the Illinois and OSU
HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
The Iowa one was fine, although I prefer a black base with a gold tigerhawk.
Illinois’ was pretty eye-catching.
MSU’s was dumb. PSU’s looked like what I imagine theirs would look like if they ever changed from the all-white lid.
jNW’s could have been nerdier only if they put a stack of books or a diploma on the side.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
Honestly, Iowa's helmet is already perfect
and you cant improve perfection
justsomehawkeyefan - February 1, 2012
I liked it as a one-time
alternate. With a gold jersey and black pants. Basically, just reverse the current uni
HoyaGoon - February 1, 2012
Didn't MSU already wear that helmet this year?
The game where they pretended their colors were green and gold?
Minnesota’s and Wisconsin’s were pretty laughable.
I gasped when I saw the Indiana one. The Nebraska one got a big eye roll. Pretty sure you’d have to have separate helmets for the offense.
I really like Michigan’s.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
My brother made the same crack about the Nebraska ones.
The MSU one did look a lot like the one they wore this year.
RossWB - February 1, 2012
I like the Indiana one, actually.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
The candystriper one?
RossWB - February 1, 2012
Looks like a barber's pole to me.
Maybe after every touchdown, they break into quartets.
BStylin Hawkye - February 1, 2012
Maybe that's why I like it.
I realize liking it is weird, but I do.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
Illinois should switch immediately.
Iowa’s might be nice with our alternate whites.
Hawkeyes - February 1, 2012
Illinois was already in hot water about the team name and mascot
I’d think if they used that helmet it might not go over well with NCAA or Native Americans.
Enoch - February 1, 2012
I had that same thought.
The really offensive part is the war paint face painting kit that comes with the helmet.
PackerHawk - February 1, 2012
ooh, taking it to the next level
I like it.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
This. Their helmet was BA.
So BA that Barachus is jealous.
therealCatnuts - February 1, 2012
Here's a bunch more from that same guy.
