Now it's time for the other Iowa-OSU showdown of the day. I talked all about this meet yesterday; scroll down if you want a refresher course. Now it's time to get out there and take care of business: get a win, get the record, and send a message to the rest of the sport. Go Hawks.
If you live in Iowa, the meet is on Iowa Public Television at 7pm CT. If you live elsewhere, the meet is being televised by video.BTN.com/Hawkeye All Access ($$$).
The standard open thread rules apply: no links to illegal online streams, no porn, no politics, no religion, no slurs, no douchebaggery.

Simul-following my brother's finals match and Iowa
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Best of luck to little bro
The finals are a huge accomplishment. And Iowa always needs help at the upper weights if he can be that good…
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Bettendorf is beating Apple Valley going into the finals round
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Where at?
Blackheartnopants - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Cheesehead tournament (WI)
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Ahhh
Blackheartnopants - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Devos and Clark are going to be wrestling in this thing
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Once again
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Tyler Clark is going?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Sorry
I am confusing you with high school talk.
Iowa commit Cory Clark is wrestling
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Ah, thanks. I don't follow HS at all. I got easily confused there.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I am just a little excited. Sorry again
It is like christmas all over again
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Hmm... To get streaming video from BTN or wait until Monday to see it?
That is the question.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
You got to see it tonight
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
That's what I was thinking too
/Whips out AmEx.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Attaboy
Welcome to the degeneration
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Fuck and yes.
I was able to connect my TV to my laptop so now I’ve got BHGP on the big screen and the wrestling on the little screen.
Wait.
/Switches screens.
Ok, that’s better.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
You should have left BHGP on the big screen in case someone posts naked molerat.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
THAT is PRECISELY the reason BHGP should NOT be on the big screen.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Naked molerat demands #ALLOFTHEPIXELS
RossWB - January 7, 2012
And now I'm irreversibly jealous
I could probably accomplish that, but I’m terrible with tech. I assume it’s just an HDMI straight connection?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Actually - with the MacBook Pro I've got, I've got to use a thingy that connects my display out to a DVI adapter and then a cable from the DVI adapter to the HDMI input.
Such a hassle to have an Apple sometimes.
/blatant humblebrag.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Listening to Simon & Garfunkel waiting for this shindig to start
Pretty much the opposite of music that will get me pumped. Time to find something else.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Last meet I attended in Carver
Gambrall (I think) came out to a song from the Lion King
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
And a Jay-Z song was on
With my hands up, they’re playin my song!
/Jay, not Miley. But the Miley song totally rawks
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Yep, he used to come out to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."
Which was… jarring.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
and completely awesome, obviously
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
aweembaway aweembaway
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
UI scheduling should be more sympathetic
To those of us living elsewhere and having to stay awake til 3 or 4 A.M. just to catch the liveblogs of these meets, especially when I’m spending both nights of my weekend doing it!
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
You must be in... Asia? Eastern Europe?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
France actually
It’s only 2 right now, but will be lateeee by the end of the meet
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
Ah, okay.
I was trying to figure out where eight hours ahead would be.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Mr. Conn? Head?
Blackheartnopants - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Currently in CHA
Place is buzzing. Former Olympians introduced at center of mat, Lincoln McIlravy and Joe Williams among them. It’s a sea of black. Place is at near capacity. Here’s to Carver Magic!

EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
#TeamPizza
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Crucial question: Domino's or Pizza Hut?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Neither.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Papa John's?
No, Tombstone!?!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
But Domino's ads say they no longer suck
“We knew we sucked, we apologize!”
I’m wondering when Pizza Hut does the same
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
No shit. I actually like Domino's new pizza.
But there’s a local place here in Houston that kicks ass at the pizza game. Unfortunately, pizza is no longer conducive to my personal wellness plans. :(
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Domino's new recipe, as far as I can tell:
Step 1: Make the same stuff we made before.
Step 2: Dunk it all in a giant vat of garlic and butter.
Step 3: Call it new and improved.
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
You forgot Step 4
PROFIT
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I also forgot Step 5:
Diarrhea
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
I went local.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Is anyone listening to All-Access on the radio?
More precisely, is it actually working for anyone?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Hooray, working now.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I'm on BTDN and it's showing a clock.
35 sec left
no
30 sec left
no
20 sec left!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I have the video in one tab and the Grace/Ironside audio in the other.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
where can I find them?
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
BTN and Hawkeye All Access. $$ required, unfortunately.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Oh, I am on BTN
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Hawkeye All Access
I get access to that thru my BTN.com subscription. So I just log in thru the All-Access section on Hawkeyesports, load the video feed in one tab and the audio feed (it has the OSU logo on it) in the other.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Anybody else's BTN.com
feed just showing a clock counting?
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
Yep
That’s normal for now.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
sweet jesus
i was getting worried
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
They're actually fairly anal retentive about starting at precisely the time listed.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
on now
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I see that now
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
YAYYYYY FOR Promptness!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Is Andy Hamilton doing us all a favor?
A quick google search turned up nothing and I love his real time updates.
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
Yep
Andy Hamilton LIVEBLOG
RossWB - January 7, 2012

therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
They are announcing for BTN.com
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Ooh, excellent!
Just turned off my music now, my bad
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Hipster.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
You're confusing me with Ross' music catalog
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
HEY
RossWB - January 7, 2012
They should be doing the call on that one.
BTN.com is just streaming the IPTV broadcast
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Another big crowd at CHA.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
More than earlier
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
Awesome

Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME!!!!!
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I must break OSU
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I do think it's dumb to use tournament rankings for teams in a dual meet.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
SHIT. Is this a fucking full house?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Should be
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
looks damn close
probably some empty seats up near the top, though
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Okay
this is an interesting starting weight. Let’s GO BOBBY
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Is it just me or is that a Skinny 285'er we've got?
I mean, relatively speaking.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
He is tall as shit
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Also, he is a little light
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Gable is awesome with the geography and anthropology lessons
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
If a Russian gets a Russian tie, is it just called a tie
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I think it is referred to as "Like kissing your comrade"
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Shit shit shit
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
well...
rupertj - January 7, 2012
Way to fight Bobby
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012

StewMonkey13 - January 7, 2012
Russian Okie?
Shit!
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Well that's a shitty start
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Z is dangerous
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
HOLY COW. Brand's eyebrows are high. INTENSITY!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
ugh, couldn't even get the escape before the end of the period
StewMonkey13 - January 7, 2012
Shit that was quick
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Does the guy behind the bench in the cowboy hat always wear eye black?
(can’t remember his name at the moment)
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
and a reversal 2 seconds into the 2nd period
StewMonkey13 - January 7, 2012
Come on Bobby. Get Fucking Mad
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Wrong sport. That's Roundball.
Proper terminology: GET FUCKING INTENSE!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Bobby needs to fight for the decision
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Well, how about not getting major'd Bobby?
StewMonkey13 - January 7, 2012
Need Bobby to do something here
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Telford is better than this
He will wrestle this guy tougher in the future
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
shit
rupertj - January 7, 2012
HWT: Gelogaev MAJ DEC (10-2) Telford
OSU 4-0
Shitfuck
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Bobby looked awful.
damn
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Getting caught early
got him skittish
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Welp.
at least boring hwt is out of the way?
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Positives!
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Well that sucked.
Let’s go McD.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Ramos up first.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Huh?
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Typo by IPTV in the scoreboard
It’s McD
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
GADDAMMIT I was like what? When did they go from 285 to 133?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Yeah I wondered the same thing, but
this isn’t the first time I’ve seen the IPTV scoreboard list the wrong people
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Admittedly, I haven't seen Iowa wrestle lately so I don't know what everyone looks like.
Tiny white guys all look alike, right?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I don't think they had showed McD yet
at least I hadn’t seen him until after they took down the scoreboard. It didn’t help that the announcer was flustered by the mistake.
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
That is most decidedly not the ideal start.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I almost feel like Rasing might have been better.
Wouldn’t have won, but don’t think he’d have gotten major’d.
StewMonkey13 - January 7, 2012
Perhaps
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
NOW LISTEN
This ain’t no make believe!
Come on, McD, future endeavor that guy!
TheCapitain - January 7, 2012
heh
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Does anybody know
Did DSJ weigh in? Is he a possibility to come out if we look like we’re in dire circumstances?
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
I don't think Brands would do that
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
But Tyrone Brands might!
Whoa…. crossing the streams there. No more of that.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
All about Nationals baby
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
He's on the bench in sweats
But I think if he was going he’d be back stretching, working out, etc
RossWB - January 7, 2012
TWOOOOOOO!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Okie State has a pretty simple gameplan.
attack when favored, defend when not.
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Iowa also tends to have a pretty simple gameplan
Attack.
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
Here comes the professional fishing
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
very nice
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Keep backing up Morrison
you fuck
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Stalling...good
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Morrison is done
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
this is where Metcalf would td and cut a guy like 8 times in one minute
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Or Ramos
I remember him being in a close match this year until putting up about 12-15 on a guy in the last period
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
That guy flat out quit
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
yeah that was great
of course it is much more difficult against the OSU style
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Jeesh, I wish I were there. Looks like a wild atmosphere!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
clinic
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Stalling point
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
whew, needed that after hwt
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Morrison is used up
You will never find a decent husband giving up your legs like that Morrison
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Morrison never even threatened a score
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I wonder if they will show the exhibition match too? EEE.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Heavy hands Tony
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Glenbard North
sounds like it should be a city in Skyrim
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
This made me laugh so hard I spit
Blackheartnopants - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Do you think it would catch on if I started calling Ramos
the “Jarl of Glenbard”?
Or would they just look at me like I’m an idiot?
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Go for it!
Just as funny, if not moreso, than “GetErDun.”
Blackheartnopants - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Best defense is offense Tony
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Oliver isn't really working anything specific
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012

KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Oliver has to be gassed
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
SHIT I SCREAMED OUT LOUD SEVERAL TIMES.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Gable is jacked
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
he could hop on the mat right now
and take them both at the same time.
The Bacon Explosion - January 7, 2012
Absolutely
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Penalty point
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
GIF That movement by Brands!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
yes!
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
THAT WAS AMAZING
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Yeah, that was a ton of hip action.
If not tonight, hopefully they show it again on Monday so that more people will have a shot to gif it.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
OMG CAUTION
That’s gonna be huge

The Bacon Explosion - January 7, 2012
OMG
Huge win!!!!!!
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
easily a 7 point swing
The Bacon Explosion - January 7, 2012
TONY FUCKING RAMOS
RossWB - January 7, 2012
ROSS
in OT by a penalty point. We have seen that before
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I've more than seen it, I've lived it.
I won a college match (DIII) on cautions in double OT. That was when the whole OT was sudden victory. It was more weird than anything because it took both me and my opponent a second to realize that the match was over. Then I was like ‘fucking right’, because it put me in the tourney finals. It was a pretty anti-climactic way to win an intense match.
hawkfan340 - January 7, 2012
Trice beat Telford last week in the Midlands on a locked hands point
Lycurgus - January 8, 2012
best match I have seen in a long time
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012

RAMOS!
“this should be shown worldwide!”—-Dan Gable.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
I loved that
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Did he really say that?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
over and over again
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
yep
more than once
White Lightning - January 7, 2012
By force if necessary
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
this atmosphere
THIS ATMOSPHERE!
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
That match was critical
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I'm losing my mind.
I had to stifle all excitement during that match while I was feeding my daughter. Once I set her down for bed I nearly jumped thru the roof.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Montell with poor leg defense again
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
COME ON MONTELL
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
URGENCY DUDE
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I cannot believe Montell had the stones to make that "dominate everyone" comment and then wrestle like he has all year.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Montell looks sluggish
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Must have had to use the machete to clear the way for the team.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
That was a great quote
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
Montell looks like Montell
sigh
RossWB - January 7, 2012
This is some sloppy shit
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Terrible
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Marion absolutely needs to understand the importance of this match.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
He is exhausted
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Psh
its not like the regular season matters. we are just waiting for march montellness. or would montell madness be better? march marionness?
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Needs better conditioning
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
And less machete swinging?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Get it going MM
You can’t lose after Ramos and his effort.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
They are gassed
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
They gave him 2 backpoints?!
HOLY MIRACLE WIN.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
He deserved them
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Can't believe he was able to hold on with that arm.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Barely
That was a poor effort by Montell
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
That was garbage
RossWB - January 7, 2012
NO SHIT.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Anyone can dominate end-to-end
The great ones do it with style. Or something. Right.
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
Sloppy sloppy match
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
OSU video guy in disbelief
was hilarious
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Damn!
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
whew
rupertj - January 7, 2012
The person controlling the scoreboard must be new at this.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Whew thank you
MM had me really worried there for awhile. He needs Fran on his ass to get him motivated this year. He should not be the type of wrestler that needs a takedown in the last 30 seconds to win most of his matches.
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
i got to think that having Brands on his ass ain't no picnic
White Lightning - January 7, 2012
Even Fran is afraid of the Brands boys!
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
hell, i'm scared of the Brands bros
and i’m just watching it on tv
White Lightning - January 7, 2012
Tom Frands
what a scary thought.
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
interesting ending
that seems like a matchup where if they meet three times in a year, Kelly gets him the third time.
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
He needs better shots
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
FINALLY!!!
Brent Metcalf has come BACK to Iowa City!
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Kelly gets it here
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Keep the updates coming...
so Ramos and Marion wrestled so far?
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
and Telford lost
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
and McD won
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
285, 125, 133 and now at 149.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Telford was majored.
McD got a major to even the score. Ramos won in OT by riding out Oliver and Marion won with miracle nearfall points.
10-4 team score.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Gracias
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Thanks. Let's go Hawks!
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
Score?
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
By my count, we're up 10-4?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
10-4 thru 141.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
How did Kelly get his second point?
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
He didn't
scoreboard screw up
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I don't even see a scoreboard. :(
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
it flashes
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
They've been having a little trouble with it.
I think they pulled it so they can try to get a better handle on it.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Was Kelly countered for both TDs?
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yeah
parks isn’t making anything happen
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
There is a shot
shit
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
shit, don't get majored
rupertj - January 7, 2012
He is a tough kid
I have confidence
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
6-2? right?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
6-3
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Third period now?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
yep
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
oh
7-2
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
7-3
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Oh right orange guy got an escape at the start of 2. righto.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Lance Palmer?
What’s he doing out there?
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
lol I thought the exact same thing when I saw "orange guy"
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Tweet says 7-2
And Gable made it sound like Parks has RT as well.
Essentially 8-3 after the Kelly escape.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Parks is watching the clock
hate this guy
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Yeah, this is an awful style of wrestling.
Glad we only have to watch OkieState once a year.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Kelly tried for the homerun at the end there
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
You guys are doing great filling in the info.
My wife is a little surprised at my energy/anxiousness. But then again, she’s never been to an Iowa v OSU duel at CHA. Fuck, I wish I was there, or at least in Iowa to catch IPTV and Gable. Thanks again.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
5 weights left
Does Iowa have 3 wins in them?
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
165 is must-win.
184 is winnable.
Then we need upsets.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I think good EL has a good chance
If he shows up against Perry in his first match cutting weight, he could definitely pull it out.
A True Americanzi - January 7, 2012
Yeah, EL has a shot. It's just not a match we're favored in.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Evans needs to work towards a major
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I'm still fired up by that Ramos win.
Unbelievable match. Really great stuff.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I KNOW RITE?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
That was awesome.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Intermission
Iowa leads the team score 10-7.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
INTERMISSION SCORE UPDATE
HWT: Gelogaev MAJ DEC (10-2) Telford (OSU 4-0)
125: McD MAJ DEC (14-4) Morrison (tied, 4-4)

RossWB - January 7, 2012
Beautiful.
Thanks.
Bucketochicken - January 7, 2012
IS metcalf in blue?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Yes.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I realized my question was moot when I saw the other dude.
/I swear – not racist. Just powers of observation.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
LOL I love how Gable is peeking over his shoulder. I assume he's checking out the exhibition match?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Dude's an addict
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
I would rather watch the match than listen to this pitch
good looking takedown there
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
LOL. I love how the cameras panned out a little so we could watch the wrestling as they are talking.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
that Dan Gable poster is sweet
rupertj - January 7, 2012
$150 for that? Hmmm.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
fund raising
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I KNOW.
I was like… hmmmmm… That’s a decent thank you gift.
I should have said – All that in thanks for $150? Hmmm…
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Exactly what I was thinking.
$150 for $1 of stuff.
HawkeyeInExile - January 7, 2012
You get a signed Gable poster.
That’s pretty cool.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
COME ON BTDN!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Mine just went back to the clock
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
No shit
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
wtf?
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
We Texans get onery if we don't get our eeeelectronic stories
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Guy on InterMat stream said that there are no ties in college wrestling as of this year
And if it is tied at the end, the visiting team gets the win. Is that correct?
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
No ties
not sure about tie breaker
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
I can't imagine
They have set tie breakers that don’t include home or away
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Yeah, I misread that
Wins, followed by falls and tech falls
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
and then?
this could tie on all of those
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
# of Dan Gables should be next
but it probably won’t be
rupertj - January 7, 2012
# of Brands bros
RossWB - January 7, 2012
We all know
That if # of Dan Gables > 1, then the universe is in for a serious ass kicking
chitownhawkeye - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Followed by total match points
And finally, first takedown
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Apparently much more complex
Tie-Breaker System for Dual Meets
In dual-meet competition, if the teams have identical scores, the following tie-breaking system shall be used to determine the winner:
a. The team whose opposing wrestlers or team has been penalized the greater number of team points for flagrant or unsportsmanlike conduct shall be declared the winner.
The team whose opposing wrestlers or team personnel have been penalized the greater number of team point deductions shall be declared the winner.c. The team whose opposing wrestlers were penalized the greater number of match points for unsportsmanlike conduct during a match shall be declared the winner.
d. The team having won the greater number of matches (including forfeits) shall be declared the winner.
e. The team having accumulated the greater number of points for falls, defaults, forfeits, or disqualifications shall be declared the winner.
f. The team having the greater number of points for technical falls shall be declared the winner.
g. The team having the greater number of points for major decisions shall be declared the winner.
h. The team having the greater number (total match points) of first point(s) shall be declared the winner.
The team having the greater number of points for near-falls shall be declared the winner.j. The team having the greater number of takedowns shall be declared the winner.
k. The team having the greater number of reversals shall be declared the winner.
l. The team having the greater number of escapes shall be declared the winner.
m. The team whose opponent has been penalized more often for stalling will be declared the winner.
n. The team whose opponent has been warned more often for stalling will be declared the winner.
o. The team whose opponent has the greater number of points for all other infractions (i.e. false starts)
If none of the above resolve the tie, a flip of a disk will determine the winner.
Upon determining the winning team by use of the tiebreaking system, a single team point shall be added to the prevailing team. The method of recording the score in breaking team ties shall be the score followed by the letter of the criterion that broke the tie.
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
that's detailed. Let's just assume the Hawks lose on a tie and go for the straight win.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I would have to agree
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Jesus!
Who thought it was a good idea to add super-complexity to this? Some refs can’t even get the simple shit right, now. And, while I’m sure there are many intelligent wrestling fans out there, is anyone going to be able to figure this out at the arena without some serious crib-notes?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
takedowns is one of them
majors I am sure follow TFs
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
so did Metcalf just win in the background?
HawkeyeInExile - January 7, 2012
Don't know
I am in BTN purgatory
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
IPTV said they will have highlights after these intermission matches.
I’ll try and catch it and put it on here for those outside Iowa.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
yeah metcalf won
geraldfleck - January 7, 2012
WANT SHIRT
SHIRT IS AWESOME SHIRT
Bucketochicken - January 7, 2012
It is so meta
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Um yep.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
That is the shirt you need if Gable ever leads a revolt against the Romans
and then is eventually defeated and faced with crucifixtion
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I'd usually say anything with Gable is awesome,
but that shirt is almost blasphemous.
I’m not Dan Gable. I’m not (that) awesome.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I guess BTN got tired of listening to IPTV ask for money
RossWB - January 7, 2012
urge to kill rising
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
I never tire of Gable doing anything
I would watch the guy rake his leaves
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Listening to him argue with his old pal while still wearing his microphone was amazing.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
"I was right, he just didn't want to admit it"
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
How awesome would it be
to see Gable slowly, intensely, rake the leaves into a big pile, and then see him stretch them into submission?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
That's a pretty great photo of Brands, but $150 sure seems like a stretch.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
how much longer?
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
Still another exhibition match going on now.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I'm slightly surprised to see them bring Mocco back to Iowa City during Okie State weekend.
That can’t have gone over very well.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Mixed reaction, apparently
RossWB - January 7, 2012
He did spend some time in the room recently
People should get over it
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Never!
One black eye isn’t enough. Give him two!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I think I saw on twitter that there was some booing.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Goddamn Benedict.
They trotted him out there>
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
VIDEO BACK
RossWB - January 7, 2012
er, briefly
RossWB - January 7, 2012
and gone again
urge to kill rising again
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
Let's Go Nick Moore
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
An upset here would be nice
Bring it, Nick.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
He is tough
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Whoa, punched square in the face.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Power double for Okie State.
Moore just got caught inside the circle.
2-0 Pokes.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Instant escape for Moore.
2-1
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Moore can beat this guy
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
quick escape from the reset
2-1
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Nice
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
thought he had the 2
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
That was close as hell
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Good call though
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I think Moore got a quick escape to start the second
2-2 mid-way thru the 2nd.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
My Dad's at UIHC right now...
..and he just texted that his nurse keeps updating the scores for him. Awesome.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
Hope he's OK
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Seconded.
Or at least recovering/getting better.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
that would have been a bad TD call.
Good job calling it off
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Nice shot Moore
Now finish
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Moore consistently getting in on a single, and unable to finish.
TD OkSt and escape for Moore. 4-3 OSU.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
You all may have discussed this already,
but do all matches have 2 refs now?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
They usually do it that way
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
White out
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
stall stall stall
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
It's a Black out.
Oh, I see.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
OSU has :38 of RT, chooses down.
Moore lets him out after a 5 or so second ride. 5-3 OSU.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Just a minute left
Moore needs to finish a shot.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Was in deep on a single, but won't be able to finish inside the circle.
Now has just 35 seconds to get a takedown.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Such a good shot
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Fuck that
damnit
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
damn
rupertj - January 7, 2012
Throw-by and Moore is done.
Nick got too aggressive and he paid for it.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Can't blame him, down 2, with 20 seconds left.
And against an OkSt wrestler.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Yeah, just needs to keep his wits about him and maintain his balance.
Solid effort, unfortunate result.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
shit
RossWB - January 7, 2012
that's trouble
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
157: White DEC (7-4) Moore
Tied up, 10-10
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Moore's lack of experience was a killer
RossWB - January 7, 2012
just finish those shots and he gets a win
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
0-for-3 wasn't it?
Looked like the better wrestler, but couldn’t find a way to finish.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
yeah, I think it was 3
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Better wrestlers finish shots.
His attacks weren’t crisp enough
RossWB - January 7, 2012
yes. frustrating
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Fuck you Albert White
DSJ is going to murder your back pedaling ass
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
come on, Evans. rip this dude
rupertj - January 7, 2012
10-10? EEECH
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Bailey is a fuck
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
He does a lot of funky shit that works in freestyle
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Evans wearing elf shoes?
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
I love that twinkle in Brands's eye.
Like he’s angry he can’t be out there wrestling tonight.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Suck on that Bailey
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Thank God.
Two points, Evans.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Evans with 24 seconds of RT in the second
Before getting too high and lett Bailey out. 0-1 Bailey, but Evans is in deep…and finishes on the scramble.
2-1 Evans, :45 left in the 2nd.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Here comes the pain from above
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
he really is dominant there. Savagely so.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
beautiful scramble TD
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Bailey always tries that throw through
I hate that
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Evans has the full minute of RT, now.
Needs to pile it on with :30 left in the 2nd.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
He is mean on top
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
No idea what the final count was, though.
Doesn’t look like he’ll hold on to it.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
And he does. Big ride for Evans there.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I think he gave it back, after it dipped under a minute advantage.
But then, escape Evans, and a takedown for two more.
And now, Evans gets the riding time back. 4-1
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Reversal, no escape
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Thanks.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
that knee looked ridiculous
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
So painful looking
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
WOOOOO
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Reversal for Evans. Turn him!!!!
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Power Half
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Ref gave Evans a reversal instead of an escape and TD.
Evans has also rebuilt his RT advantage. Up 4-1 plus RT with 25 left.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Evans is looking strong
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
If he can get polished he'll be an absolute beast.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Didn't even look like he was breathing at the end.
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
Don't fall for any stupid orange shit, and we get the W.
Evans wins, 5-1
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I love how he's basically driving the guy's face into the mat
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
that's right push his face in the mat
Iowa Wrestling. 13-10 with 3 matches to go.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
can EL do it?
rupertj - January 7, 2012
yes
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
165: Evans DEC (5-1) Bailey
Iowa up, 13-10
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Big win for Evans.
13-10 Iowa thru 7 (?)
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yes. 7.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
we need a win from EL, right?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Mark Perry's little bro against Ethan Lofthouse.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Did the entire Perry family grow up in Stillwater?
How in the hell did Iowa take a Perry from the Pokes’ backyard?
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Because John Smith is a puffy-eared dickhead?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
BTN can suck my wang ND vs Minn instead of this match BULLSHIT!
nwyms Trebek! - January 7, 2012
It will be on delay on BTN, Monday at 7 pm ct.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
COME ON EL!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
COME ON EL!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Nice Shot EL
FInish it
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Bitch ran away
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Call the backing out!
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
We got a no call in Montell's match on that
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Pull that fleeing fuck back on the mat!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I like Mark Perry, but I don't like his little brother.
Am I allowed to do that?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I like Mark Perry, but I don't like his uncle.
So, yes, you are allowed.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
teabag!!!
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
oohhhhhhhh
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
ohhhh
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Neutral pin?
COME ON EL
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
ALMOST.
Instead it’s a 0-0 period.
That would have been yuuuge
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I WAS HOPING!!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
That needs to be awarded points.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
holy shit
RossWB - January 7, 2012
so close
rupertj - January 7, 2012
That was interesting
Wow.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
how huge would that have been
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
He probably should have been working harder for two rather than six
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I think that's what he was thinking, but he may have been swayed by crowd noise.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Having this thread my only source of info is so confusing
and awesome.
Nefarious - January 7, 2012
Seconded.
One Night Stanzi - January 7, 2012 via Android app
I think someone said flowrestling is doing a stream or something?
But why leave BHGP?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
They can't be streaming this
BTN owns it
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Well, IPTV first but BTN bought the rights, I believe.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Maybe audio stream of running commentary by flowrestling writers/bloggers?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
For a few years now this dual has been shown live on ESPN
I wish that was the case this year
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
But then you wouldn't have Gable or Tim Johnson?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Or does Johnson work for ESPN in those situations?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I don't know.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Actually, this thread makes WAY more sense than the radio broadcast with Ironside.
CHA is PANDEMONIUM tonight. Screaming, spitting, jumping up and down… and it isn’t just the coaching staff tonight, it’s EVERYONE!
Eyeheartfreedumb - January 7, 2012
Beautiful
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
It's awesome
And I love the SBnation app when it’s working
chitownhawkeye - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
EL is looking pretty decent
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
yes. One TD might win this match if he can do it.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Oh, shit, Perry got an escape early in the second to take a 1-0 lead.
Just 15 seconds left.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Why did he do neutral?
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Just thinking the same thing
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Perry is nails in the ride
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Lofthouse took neutral when down 1-0?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
EL chooses neutral to start the third. Still down 0-1.
Not interested in being under Perry, I guess.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
can you win a match by running away for 3 turns?
justsomehawkeyefan - January 7, 2012
Get that takedown, EL
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
shoot!
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I've no idea what EL's best move is, but he needs to go it IMMEDIATELY.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
BOOM!
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Don't get desperate
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Clutch
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
YES TWO
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
:30 left, EL gets the TD!
Has to hold on, or avoid the reversal. 10 left.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Damn
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
OT
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
time?
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
Perry gives up the reversal attempt and earns the escape.
sudden victory.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Perry is tired
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
yes he is. We have a shot
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Fuck
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Nervous...
What are the expectations for Wagner and Gambrall?
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
Gambrall is wrestling a stud
Iowa needs this win
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
EL in again but gets stuffed
They go out of bounds,5 seconds left. OT coming.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Need an escape, EL has not shown the ability to ride Perry out.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
EL looks gassed.
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
I'm gassed and my fat ass is on the couch!
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
2nd caution for Perry on the restart.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Perry sinks in both hooks and EL is ridden
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Damn
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Saints driving if anyone cares
nwyms Trebek! - January 7, 2012
NO.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Yuck. Has to ride Perry out or quick escape and TD
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
EL absolutely wiped out.
Doesn’t look good.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
trouble.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
TD Saints
nwyms Trebek! - January 7, 2012
not to be mean, but common man, no one cares
come back in 30
justsomehawkeyefan - January 7, 2012
Can't let him out at this point.
Just :18 left.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Bull shit
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Escape Perry, and Perry immediately shoots.
EL loses in OT. Perry then gets a bit crazy and absolutely should be docked a point.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
probably should be
rupertj - January 7, 2012
Fuck.
Okie State style for you.
And now some brou-haha after the match between the wrestlers.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Fuck off Perry!
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
What a fuckwad.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
174: Perry DEC (3-2) Lofthouse
Tied up, 13-13
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Brands had some great faces there
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
If anyone has BTN and a tuner on their computer they should have some primo footage to catch on Monday night.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Fuck Perry
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
pushing and shoving afterwards
RossWB - January 7, 2012
EL pushed at Perry's head after the OT period as he was being taken down.
Perry then got hot and shoved back. Both HCs met at the center of the mat to collect their wrestler.
Intense stuff.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
EL pushed because Perry drove him into the mat well after the whistle
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Yeah, I was just trying to give a lil PbP for those out of state.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Sure
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
much appreciated
BamaGatorHawk - January 7, 2012
Tough loss. We're in deep shit for the dual win
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Perry drove after the whistle
well after the whistle
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
They went with Fahler here
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Or wagner
I can’t tell them apart
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
that's racist
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Why does the non-descript wrestler have to be white?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Albert White?
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I'm not black like Barry White, I am white like Frank Black is
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Because 75%+ of the people in wrestling are white? I dunno.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
THAT'S THE JOKE!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012

“You can go into the hallway, but it’s REALLY happening right here!”

be sure to check the elevator security footage after the meet.
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Awesome!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I'm picturing that
Rock vs Mankind match at halftime of the Super Bowl that one year, with the popcorn machine and all that other stuff.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
How do we like Vinnie's chances here?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Even
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
It would be nice to have Gambrall here, but then again 197 might go heavy to them
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I think we would give up a pin at 97
if Gambrall is here
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
I went to high school with Wagner. Very decent wrestler.
Great story. Med school and all. I’m impressed.

Blackheartnopants - January 7, 2012 via Android app
As somebody who doesn't follow that closely
Are the stall rules making a difference? The way it sounds here, there’s still too much stalling
chitownhawkeye - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Not much of a difference
the stalling hasn’t been too bad really
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Well,
I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who made sure that the rules had minimal actual effect on the mat.
For as awesome as we think the Iowa style is, there are just as many people who love the Okie State style, calling it “gamesmanship.” But, those people are retards.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
We benefit from non-stalling calls often enough
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
er, stalling no-calls
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
At this point a tie would be a win just to throw the streak in OSU's face.
Especially since Iowa will likely extend it much further if they can get out today.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
No ties
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
they'd win the criteria, i think
rupertj - January 7, 2012
there is no tie, it would go to criteria
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
andy hamilton said in liveblog that as of now he thinks osu has tiebreaker
cah05 - January 7, 2012
who's left for us
and how do we stack up?
BamaGatorHawk - January 7, 2012
What are the total match points at this point?
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
If my math is good, at intermission total match points were tied at 32.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
It has been a close dual. Tony's win has given us the shot we needed. Come on Grant!
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
If Iowa loses by 2 points they lose the tiebreaker.
Match points currently at 47-46 Iowa.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Gah!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Haha asshole
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
finally got the point for stalling!

Sure as hell did.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Let's finish this hawks!
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
What is it with OSU wrestlers throwing haymakers?
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Simple baiting.
They know that the second guy usually gets the worse punishment.
Brent Metcalf would have got medieval on those bitch moves.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Did they say Rosholt is a former HWT?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
yes they did. Doesnt look like it, does he?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
No,
I assumed they meant high school HWT. But if they meant college HWT, then no, he really doesn’t look like it.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
They said he got down to 97 after the Russian got there
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
gambrall looks overpowered
its a very tense feeling
snowpork - January 7, 2012 via Android app
shit, so GG needs to win this
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
46-45 OSU in match points, per IPTV
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Well, now I'm not sure if my match was good.
I had it 32 all in the first half and Iowa up 15-14 thru 4 in the second half.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Or spelling ;)
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
yeah. I'm looking back and I've no idea which score i got wrong.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Let's hope your math is better than the public television guy's math
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
time?
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
2nd period just started.
Gambrall down 3-1 and Rosholt has a full minute of RT, as well.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
So basically winner of this match wins the dual?
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
yes
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
assuming IPTV is correct on total match points
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
KJ Pilcher just tweeted
48-47 Iowa for match points.
Bucketochicken - January 7, 2012
That's the third different tally.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
but two out of three favor Iowa!
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
It's like boxing!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
but we're fucked because he has to get within a point either way. and he's not doing that
rupertj - January 7, 2012
yeah
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
Yeah, really odd.
Even if GG loses by just one point, I’ve no idea what the next TB is.
Doesn’t look like it’s going to matter. GG is down 3.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
God I hope that's right
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
IPTV still says OSU up one.
There have been no falls or tech falls.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
yep. and GG isn't doing so much so far
rupertj - January 7, 2012
"Gambrall just hangs out too much"
“If you’re good, might as well wrestle”
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Work something Grant
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
About to give up a TD
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Nope. Broke up by the ref.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Gambrall looks like he's out muscled here
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012
Come ON! Hell, you have to do something!
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Maybe the Iowa bench thinks they have the tiebreaker?
Since nobody seems to be able to figure it out.
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
Meh.
I think they aren’t worried about that, They just wanted Gambrall to win, but he wasn’t ready yet.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Take the win, Gambrall, and don't make us worry about stupid tiebreakers.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Grant's fucked
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
GODDAMMIT GG!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Fuck. Big trouble.
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
TD , Rosholt.
Fuck!
Let’s go, Grant. Get tough!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
are we doomed?
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
yes
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
yes
Off Constantly - January 7, 2012

GG with a lazy shot and is taken down again. OSU is going to win on tiebreakers.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Maybe he'll get majored and make it legit
Crap
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
they are gonna win because of a fucking tiebreaker rule.
what the fuck?
justsomehawkeyefan - January 7, 2012
Yep.

Ball game
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012

therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012

RossWB - January 7, 2012
Let's play two.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
fucking fuck fuck
rupertj - January 7, 2012
Wow. stupid irony.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
Why are they announcing that during the match that's still going??????
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
That announcement was ridiculous.
Horrible timing. Even the wrestlers stopped to listen.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Yeah, no shit.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Announcing what?
I missed it.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
that criteria would decide the dual outcome in case of a tie
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
That if the meet ended in a tie,
they’d go to the scorebook for the criteria tiebreaker.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
The tiebreaker rules.
They came over the PA with the rules with another 25 seconds or so left in the match.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
well this sucks the big one
djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Cannot believe the dual streak is going to die because of tiebreakers.
What’s with American’s inability to accept a tie as a result?
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
good question
rupertj - January 7, 2012
Too close to sharing.
We hate sharing.
Bucketochicken - January 7, 2012
With the exception of a couple of guys
I didn’t think the Hawks wrestled all that well.
Lycurgus - January 7, 2012
Yep.
We don’t seem to be that great this time of year.
Which is okay, if we get our shit together by February/March.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
In fairness,
they could probably just add another weight to help prevent ties.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Let's just go back
And retroactively figure out what the streaks are. If we’re being penalized for tie no longer being an option, they should have to adjust them all
chitownhawkeye - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Well may as well make a new streak.
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Hell yes!
Fuck’em. We’ll do it.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
And we can make it a winning streak
instead of an unbeaten streak
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
I'm in favor of that.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
197: Rosholot DEC (8-4) Gambrall
Tied 16-16
OKST should win via tiebreakers.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
That tiebreaker list is dense
Wasn’t there something about penalty points in there? Wouldn’t that favor Iowa?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
There were no penalty points
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
should've been
rupertj - January 7, 2012
or could've, i guess
rupertj - January 7, 2012
YES. Should've been a point deducted from Perry.
That would have ensured that we got it.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I would rather not win that way
Lycurgus - January 8, 2012
Stalling points, however, yes.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
they didn't get penalized for anything
KilometersDavis - January 7, 2012
And now the Saints are destroying the Lions.
Up 24-14.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Damn, I just saw a serious hottie in the front row at the Superdome.
Like, wearing a boustier or something.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
did you bring your beads?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Fuck all teams named OSU
RossWB - January 7, 2012

djwoody - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
This team won't win shit in March w/o a lot of improvement
RossWB - January 7, 2012
except Ramos
who will win the WHOLE FUCKING THING BABY WOOOOOO
justsomehawkeyefan - January 7, 2012
I was impressed with a couple of wrestlers not named Ramos or McD.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
You talking Iowa, or OSU?
Or both?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Iowa
Who gives two fucks about OSU here, Chazz?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Easy, big fella.
/says even bigger fella.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Iowa sports: we shit the bed when you bother paying attention.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
No fucking shit!
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
Cap One Bowl disagrees.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Oooh, SEVEN FUCKING YEARS AGO
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I feel like Orange Bowl would be a better example
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
Iowa: Love it or Leave it!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Chin up, guys, even though we lose when it matters now, we won TWO YEARS AGO!
Hip hip hooray!
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Lose when it matters lol
Its the first loss by Iowa wrestling in a dual in how long?
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
The last big dual they won was either PSU or Minnesota last year.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
The basketball team found a way to win huge games.
Hoping for a win today was fair given the last week, but being truly angry about the loss seems unfair.
That said, they absolutely shit the bed, so there is reason for some disappointment.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I don't mind losing today, although getting whipped by 30 was painful.
But, seriously, when’s the last time Iowa got a big win in a sport where it WASN’T a surprise?
We have performance anxiety when the spotlight is on us and it’s frustrating.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Michigan this year
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Or last year's Insight Bowl, at least I wasn't surprised.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I suppose we can agree to disagree, but
we were an underdog and coming off three straight losses to end the season.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I was more kidding about that one.
Just saying I wasn’t that shocked because of our bowl game skillz
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Surprise.
We were coming off the Minnesota loss.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
we were the upset special for every announcer
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I could maybeee agree with you about performance anxiety but
in general terms, recently we have not been that great at football or basketball. So normally spotlight games are against better teams, hence more surprising. Right?
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
We haven't had many opportunities lately, it's true.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
let him vent, ya?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
You're right
the world is totally ending because we lost to a pretty good team. SHUT DOWN THE UNIVERSITY FIRE EVERYONE BURN IT TO THE GROUND.
nerdhawk - January 7, 2012
Plenty to be frustrated about
Lycurgus - January 8, 2012
So fucking lame.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Iowa sports: where being mentally weak happens.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Albert Young (and about 200 wrestlers from the past) disagrees.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Gotta agree with Chazz here.
Today was not a good day in CHA, but I think you’re overstating things, Ross.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
Obviously there are counter-examples
There were too many guys who didn’t wrestle like they needed to wrestle today.
This meet was there for the taking – we let them have it.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I agree with that,
but I don’t think you can call the whole U of I athletic program “mentally weak” because of it.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I will
Lycurgus - January 8, 2012
I'll take your word for it on tonight's match.
Couldn’t see it myself, but the thread suggests a lot of places where we underperformed.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
In a meet like this you need to see guys nut-up and go for it
that didn’t really happen.
Iowa State and Okie State are two duals that make Hawkeye legends. It was ready made for a couple of guys and they let it slip through their fingers.
Lycurgus - January 8, 2012
God that was a lame effort
@ 197
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
Not a good day
In CHA
chitownhawkeye - January 7, 2012 via iPhone app
anything official yet on the tiebreaker?
BamaGatorHawk - January 7, 2012
It's official. OSU win. And that sucks.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
OKST wins 17-16 on total match points criteria.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
bad taste in the mouth
It’s like breaking a football tie by checking who has the most total yards.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
Yep.
Terrible.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
This should be like adding bowl game touchdowns retroactively for records.
Ok St during their streak were allowed to tie. This rule is horse shit!

then that makes a whole lot of sense.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
Lofthouse should have won
Gambrell looked like shit. There’s your dual meet.
Quinn Early: Motivational Speaker - January 7, 2012
Lousy Saturday.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
i had a feeling EL loosing that stallfest killed it for us
Gambrall switching to 197……hows that working out for ya pal?
justsomehawkeyefan - January 7, 2012
What prompted his change anyway?
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
stupidity?
he was injured and found it easier to go to 197 instead of 184, which has turned out to be a really dumb move since he isnt strong enough for 197
justsomehawkeyefan - January 7, 2012
There isn't much else at 197 either
Maybe he’s taking one for the team?
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
on more than one occasion Brands has said he doesnt give a shit about "team"
and that team wins would come from individual success. since thats his way of doing things, the “take one for the team” idea doesnt make much sense.
justsomehawkeyefan - January 7, 2012
OK, maybe he just likes eating Twinkies then
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
He looks leaner than last year,
but still not super-toned.
He’s definitely got conditioning work to do.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I don't think we know enough about this situation to label him "stupid."
Minnesota just had a kid retire because of concussions.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I heard that he's weighing in at 187 right now.
And that Brands has said that 184 is still in the mix for him. It’s early in the season and although it would have been very nice to win last night, Brands still coaches for the postseason and looks at duals as training/proving ground.
Either way we’re going to have a hole at one of the weights, my guess is that hole will be at 197 by the time the postseason rolls around.
My theory is that maybe he enjoys the slightly slower pace of 197 while he’s still getting over the concussion. I was also told that he has beaten several of the top guys currently at 197 while in high school so maybe he thought he would have an easier go of it at 197. He’s learning a lesson though, weight makes a big difference.
Also, I don’t believe he is working with Doyle currently. The wrestling team has leaned on Doyle a few times in the past. If Gambrall really wants to stay at 197 (and it sounds like it’s entirely his choice as of right now) we may see them utilize Doyle.
HawKCP - January 8, 2012
That was the match
I told my wife when he wasn’t able to score in that first go down on the mat that it was going to cost Iowa. She didn’t care though.

Last year's dual against OKSt.
Since that was a draw, what was the criteria behind that draw? Did it come down to total match points or what?
the notorious r.d.m. - January 7, 2012
there were ties back then

The no-ties rule is new this year.
It was just a run-of-the-mill tie last year.

what was the rationale
Behind this rule? It doesn’t affect the individuals. It’s like it was created solely to affect the unbeaten streak

clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Yeah, they're the best of the bunch in the playoffs.
The 49ers have a decent secondary, I think.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Houston and Baltimore are all about the front 7, really
JJ Watt deserves some reps for Rookie of the Year, BTW
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
He's been a beast.
So has Smith from the 49ers. That should be an interesting decision.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Probably going to be Von Miller..
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Could be.
Aldon Smith does have a good case. Klug is going to be overlooked entirely for RotY, but should make the all-rookie team (assuming they have an all-rookie team).
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I hope so.
Clayborn too. He had a good year. It was a surprisingly good year for rookies on the DL, though
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Yeah. Clayborn played well.
It’s too bad that both were solid players on shit teams.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012

therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
At least they do at sea level.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
poor Ryan Clark
RossWB - January 7, 2012

clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Sanchez is not good.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I've never liked him.
Not at USC, not with the Jets, and particularly not when he’s prancing around in the mags like Men’s Fitness or Vanity Fair or whatever.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Nope, but he is a decent play action guy.
The main problem is they thought he was good so instead of working the run game with Shonn, they would put him in like spread shotgun looks and he is terrible at it. I wouldn’t mind at least seeing what Mcelroy from Bama can do
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Well, we know he can complain to the radio people.
Seriously, I thought McElroy was a good leader at Bama, but he doesn’t have the arm for the NFL.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I know, I am more just in a "anyone but Sanchez mode"
It’s unlikely that they will draft another QB though, because Sanchise is young and Rex loves him
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I think he doesn't have the mental toughness to go
through mild difficulties in NYC.
They need to find someone else. Dalton might have been perfect, if he didn’t make every NYJ fan think of Glenn Foley.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Sanchez has the mental toughness in spades
just not QB ability
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Their passing game problem is that they have all streak-route receivers
and no hands guys. Just a dumb way to construct a receiver corps. The Raider way, I guess
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Pretty much. I was actually pleasantly surprised with Jeremy Kerley.
They need to draft a possession receiver.

I met him in Minneapolis and he was a giant creep (hard to imagine, huh?). I was single at the time and he gave me the up-and-down and then attempted to steal the lady I’d picked up. When he failed he made sure to watch me walk out of the restaurant. So I gave him a wink.

Well, they received a bonus team point as a result of the TB, so they technically won 17-16.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
You know what? Sucker Punch is a twisted up movie, but it's interesting.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Did the dance scenes seem to represent rape scenes that they didn't want to show?
It seems that the people that interpret the dancing as guards raping the girls are the people that cut the movie the most slack.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Huh? What? Uhm.
Er. Wow. I didn’t think of it that way.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Yeah. A lot of the people that hated the movie thought the dancing was just stupid and out of place.
The less critical reviews generally saw it as a movie for sexual assault victims. I’ve not yet seen it.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I'll have to rewatch it and keep that in mind then.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012

EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012

WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012

therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012

I like all of their offensive players.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012

Everyone else there can suck it.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012

clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Mexican't I need to thank you for introducing me to Portman Kunis United through here

ManziBall - January 7, 2012

I’ll probably end up getting the black home shirt, but I put a bug in the owners’ ear about a potential black & gold third shirt.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Black and gold would be pretty sweet
Keep me posted through here if you’re able to get that made
ManziBall - January 7, 2012

He claimed he’d have an away shirt (white) drawn up weeks ago, so I may just quit waiting and order the black. It’s an amazing shirt
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I think you posted an image of it in one of the threads and I went to the site
Didn’t realize how amazing it was until I delved deeper into the illustrious background of PKU
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Thanks for playing, Lions.
Hope you don’t have another 15 (?) year gap between playoff appearances.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Tough matchup. I think the Saints are the only ones that have a chance to beat the Pack.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I'm curious to see what the Niners look like in the playoffs.
Since they’re the only team in the NFC with a good defense.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Someone on the SVP show this week predicted a 'Niners SB win
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I'm not sure I'd go that far
Unless Alex Smith can REALLY embrace his inner Trent Dilfer. And Patrick Willis turns into Ray Lewis 2.0
RossWB - January 7, 2012
If I had to guess, the prediction relies entirely on SF being able to avoid shootouts.
If Harbaugh wins a SB in his first year, San Francisco should erect a statue outside of Candlestick for him.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
Shootouts would kill them.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Well, maybe not outside the Stick,
because the Niners will probably move away from it within 5 years.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
They can take the statue with them.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Okay.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Alex Smith is better than Trent Dilfer
and his receivers are far better than the Ravens had that year as well
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
They cut Braylon Edwards,
and Crabtree is decent.
But didn’t Dilfer have a healthy Todd Heap and Shannon Sharpe? Or did they not have Sharpe yet?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Vernon Davis is better than both those guys
as a receiver, anyway. And I think they had Heap but not Sharpe, but I’m not certain on that at all
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Vernon Davis may be faster than those guys,
but maybe not better than either Heap or Sharpe in their prime.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Sharpe in his prime was a HOFer
But he was past his prime with the Ravens
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Davis has more TDs in a year,
but even Sharpe’s Baltimore years were comparable in receptions or yardage to Davis’s.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
They had Sharpe
I’m pretty sure I remember him scoring the only points of the game against Oakland in the conference title game.
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
Now I has a sad.
I think that was also the game where that fat fuck Siragusa knocked Gannon out of the game.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Yeah, I knew you weren’t going to enjoy that post, sorry.
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
That Gannon resurgence era for the Raiders was incredible
Was that mostly due to Gruden or did they have talent that they lost later?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Other talent too
They had the last few years of good Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, some decent running backs…
But they all got old (and bad) in a hurry. Which led to some bad, bad, bad, bad years.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I think the Barrett Ruud thing probably hurt as well
He was young and very talented until his problems caught up with him
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Oh, great,
then they’ve officially doomed us.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
They settle for way too many FGs
It’s going to kill them at some point.
Brock Sampson - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
I’m a Niner’s fan, but I’m doubtful we’d beat the Pack or the Saints.
We did beat the Giants once this year. I’d like to think we could beat the Falcons in SF.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
You did beat the Giants but they were pretty bi-polar.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Well, then that will make it difficult for the Giants to get through two straight weeks of playoffs,
right?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Not going to get through one week even. Falcons have been playing some
real good football lately. That would be a good matchup next week.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I like how Brandon Jacobs was so pissed
at the Jets for talking shit.
And then, one of his Giant team-mates (Tuck?) does the same shit two weeks later about Atlanta being dirty.
(And Atlanta is dirty, btw. Not Lions’ dirty, but still kinda dirty).
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
WithLeather made an argument that David Akers should be the MVP this year.
It’s mostly a joke, but it’s a pretty interesting case. Story here
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012

There’s a great story about traveling back in the day at around the 7-8 minute mark.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Oh, hey, thanks!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Never ceases to amaze me how intense this man is
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Oh, hey, Ran across Yogi Bear on HBO.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Drew Brees is a bad man.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Another bomb or more terrible tackling?
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Great pass.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Hate that motherfucker.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
Really?
For what reason? Brees seems like a hard guy to hate.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
The Alma Mater that must not be named.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
He has some pretty repellant personal views
Although if you get too caught up in that you’re going to wind up hating most athletes
NorseHawk - January 8, 2012
OUR MOST HATED NFL QUARTERBACK WITH A DUMB-LOOKING BIRTHMARK!
RossWB - January 7, 2012
AND HE CONTINUES TO HAVE SURGERY TO GET RID OF IT!
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I could watch Oprah try to wipe away that birthmark every day and never get tired of it.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Brees is kind of annoying at times,
but I can’t quite hate him.
I like the fact that he is small-ish, got dumped by the Chargers after an injury, and came back with a vengeance.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
If I were judging Brees merely by the content of his character,
then I wouldn’t hate him at all. In other words, you’re completely right.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
I think the spread was -10.5
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Saints have over 600 yards of offense?
Nice D, Lions.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Most in postseason history.
616 and probably still enough time to pile it on if they want.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yeah they do, with the INT now.
Run it up!
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Despite Aldo headlining UFC 142, next week's PPV looks a bit weak.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
It looks really lame.
I have no desire to head out to a sports bar to watch it.
UFC ON FOX 2 looks far better. And I can watch that from my couch. For free.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Saints could get FIDDY
(I mean, they probably won’t… but they could.)
RossWB - January 7, 2012
If anyone lives in Bettendorf/Davenport go outside and look at the moon.
There is like a giant perfect circle ring around it. looks sweet.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
If this is an intricate ploy to make people see you "mooning" them, I'm calling the cops.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
My group noticed that after eating dinner...it was a little trippy.
One Night Stanzi - January 8, 2012 via Android app
Saints have 616 yards of offense.
That would be an NFL record.
Hot damn.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Ha, first and goal.
GO FOR FIFTY
RossWB - January 7, 2012
This is like the NFL equivalent of what West Virginia did to Clemson the other night.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Why are they still passing?
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Because FUCK YOU DETROIT?
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Because they are kinda dicks?
I dunno. It was 3rd and 7 on that last pass play so I guess they just wanted to get a first down and keep running out the clock
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I just came inside from looking at the moon and saw the pass.
I actually really like the Saints, but it seemed slightly odd.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Not like they have to worry about Detroit punishing them in return
They’ll be back to their losing ways soon enough.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Because they want to win the title of
“bigger hell-hole due to natural or economic disaster”?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
FUCK CLEMSON
/obligatory.
Yeah. This is one hell of a second half shelling. I also love that the ACC was absolutely torched in that game to further punish VA Tech’s fans.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Hai guys. Charles Barkley on SNL tonight. I hope it is turribly funny.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I do love Charles Barkley
Is he still skinny?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Yeah, and he called Weight Watchers the biggest scam of all time.
Of course, the subject is entirely out of context. He was referring to it as a scam because he’s making nice sponsor moneys for doing next to nothing.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Now that he's skinny.
He can’t be funny anymore. It’s like a law of physics.
EastLosRandy - January 7, 2012
Did we really need a televised awards show for the NFL awards?
(That’s a rhetorical question, btw.)
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Don't Nascar and the NHL have them now?
An NBA one might be kind of funny, particularly if they let the players bring strippers..I mean, companions.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Ahem: Escorts.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Ahem, Whores

EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I'll take any and every show about football.
We’ve only a month left before the doldrums of the offseason really take over.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Aww, no fifty.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
466 yards? You are ridiculous, Brees.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Is he #1 on your board next year or is it Rodgers?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Can I cheat and say 1a and 1b?
I have no idea who I would favor there. The way Brees has ended the season has been insane.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I think it's still Rodgers because of his rushing TDs
But, yeah. That’s a tough one. Remember when RBs were so important to fantasy? Now there’s only 5-6 worth anything it seems
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
I had Rodgers in two leagues this year and was very happy. The rushing TDs are a nice bonus w/ him
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Probably depends on if the Pack's WR corps is going to fall of a cliff.
Driver can’t play forever, and do you really trust anyone else there? Maybe Finley.
Meanwhile, Brees seems to work his magic with a bunch of different RBs, Colston-Meachem-Graham aren’t that old, and they play half their games indoors.
I am also conflicted. But yeah, probably Rodgers because of the rushing TDs.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Uh, what?
The Packers go 6 deep in quality WRs, nobody else in the league is even close. And they’re all young. And Finley is the worst by far.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
How many of those guys do you trust?
And didn’t one of them just get hurt?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I trust all of them except Finley. They're very, very deep in receivers.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Do you watch much of the packers? They make unbelievable
toe tap, sideline catches so consistently it’s really unfair. Also Matt Flynn for 6 TD’s. A lot of that is the WR’s. I trust them all
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I haven't watched them a ton,
but I thought those younger guys were developing a rep for drops.
Did Cobb just go out for the year with leg injury?
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Jennings, Nelson, Jones, Cobb, Finley.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Is Cam Newton 1c? That guy scores points. 2a at worst.
Just think next year if they can get a couple more good players. Maybe another solid receiver.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
He's still too young to be taken ahead of those other guys.
Only one year of work
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Yeah, he would be way up there.
But I’d takes Rodgers and Brees ahead of him. Maaaybe Brady too. But Cam has tons of value with all the rushing yards/TDs he gets.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Newton is probably a Pro Bowl player if he played in the AFC.
(I’m assuming, of course, that he didn’t make it since he’s stuck behind Rodgers and Breesus)
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Pro Bowl takes 3 QBs per side
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Stafford?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Not sure who the 3rd is
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Manning
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Ah.
Lots of good QBs in the NFC this year.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Which is why I tend to think the NFC will dominate the AFC over the next decade.
The AFC did well in the 00s because they had the best QBs.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I'd like to see him back for about 6 or 8 games
before I considered him elite again.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Eli...
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Okay.
We’ll see if that Giants group of WRs can come close to repeating this year’s goodness.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
We are just talking about who the 3rd pro bowl qb is..
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Ah.
Sorry.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Haha it's fine. Just seemed like you were thinking
it was the Fantasy Football QB situation
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I thought we were still talking about
“elite fantasy QBs”.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
And besides, Eli is legit
He has a different set of receivers every year and has 4,000 yards and the playoffs every year
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Yeah, he's under-rated by most.
It is probably helpful that the Cowboys always have big problems. And that the Jets are grabbing all the attention (good or bad) that they can.
Kind of gives him a break from the media’s drummed-up bullshit.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Back to Iowa wrestling for a second
Understanding the new tiebreaker rules, how would have the Iowa/OK St dual turned out last year?
the notorious r.d.m. - January 7, 2012
That seems like too difficult a task to figure out. Or time consuming
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Challenge Accepted
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
working on it as well
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
I just meant for me to figure out. I in know way ever even remotely challenged you.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Uh. "Challenge Accepted"
is a reference to “How I met your Mother”. One of the characters, Barney uses it frequently, even though he is not challenged.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I know. And Marshall will say stuff like I never even remotely challenged you.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
For Example
Barney: Marshall, I have thought it over and I accept your challenge
Marshall: i didn’t challenge you to have sex with…
Barney: Tomorrow, the cougar hunt begins!
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Well played, sir.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Permission to say lawyered?
TwistConePlease - January 8, 2012
OH GOD.
I totally forgot that line from Marshall. Thanks.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I think OSU would have won 47-40
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I got 47-42
Either way OSU would have one
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Probably.
I am no expert at the maths.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Wow, would have won
I am no expert at the words
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
I assumed you meant one extra point.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
I guess it works either way
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
You are correct, sir.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
And either way, you get the assist
Used your BHGP post from last year to get the results
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Hooray for archives!
I actually went to Hawkeye Sports.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
WOOO BHGP is useful!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
It still doesn't matter to me
You have team scoring for team duals, and individual scoring for individual matches. The “no ties” thing is dumb.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Would it have gone that far into the TBs?
I couldn’t find last year’s results.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yeah, there were no bonus points
No falls, no tech falls, no major decisions.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Wow.
That these duals are shown live only by IPTV is insane. Gable was right when he said the whole world should be able to see this. Any other sporting event that close would be talked about for weeks afterwards.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
It was like Bama-LSU The First
but with some offense as well. Really a great dual to watch.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
'Tis a shame.
ESPNU has shown a few in recent years. BTN had the rights for this one, though, since it was in CHA.
They decided more people would rather watch college hockey instead.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
The Iowa-Okie State meet has been on regular ESPN I believe
Lycurgus - January 8, 2012
Matches were even 5-5
All were decisions – no bonus points
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Oh, that's right!
I remember now. Final score was 15-15. Hah.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Interestingly, while both meets were ties (essentially), six of the results this year were flipped from last year.
Same as last year: 125, 141, 149, 197
Diff. from last year: 133, 157, 165, 174, 184, HWT
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Sigh Gambrall.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Wow, Mo Lawal wrestled at UCOK?
I thought he was a big timer.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I need clarification on that acronym
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
University of Central Oklahoma.
I had an old roommate that moved to OK to wrestle for them after failing to walk-on at Iowa. He was from Texas and I believe the primary reason he moved to OK was to say “I wrestle at UCOK”
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yeah, it sounds like the name of a school on a National Lampoon or Van Wilder movie
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
snicker.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Larkin deserved to lose for that dumb hair
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Lawal is a monster.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Didn't he lose to someone last year?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Yeah, he lost a title fight.
I don’t think it was even close. He’s a great gatekeeper, but he’s got a ways to go before he is considered a high-level fighter.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Lost to Rafael Cavalcante in August 2010 actually
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Ah, I didn't realize it was that long ago.
The time between MMA fights always feels shorter than it usually is. GSP’s unbeaten streak is at something like 4 or 5 years, but it doesn’t feel anywhere near that long.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
Silva’s been undefeated for, what, six years?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Yeah. Last loss was the DQ against Okami in '06.
Insane.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
And that loss is about as legit as the loss on Bones Jones' record.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
Before that was the flying heel hook in ‘04 to Ryo Chonan. So his last legitimate loss was roughly 8 years ago. I can’t imagine feeling that dominant for so long. What would make anyone want to keep going after 8 years of total control?
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
dolla billz
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
What else is he gonna do?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
tax accountancy
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
That would be an odd career change for a dude who specializes in kicking guys in the ehad.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
not really. He works for the IRS
therealCatnuts - January 8, 2012
Well, I guess I assumed he's making more money than he probably is.
Maybe down the road it’ll be less likely.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I'm sure he's made a lot of money.
I think it’s just one of those things where he craves the competition. Same reason why guys like Jordan, Favre, etc. kept playing for so long.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
that is a loooong time in MMA
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Also, he spent a year at Okie State so fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck him.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Archer re-runs on FX right now.
Can’t wait for the new season.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Dark Knight on TNT-W.
EEEEE. Heath does a hell of a job as Joker.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Still haven't seen it
I don’t get to watch many violent movies now that I’m married with a youngin
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
I have it on DVD,
have only watched it once or twice.
I actually feel bad that I have quite a few DVDs and I never watch them. And my DVR is almost full.
I wish I were like other people I know and could just take the occasional day off (or week off, in the case of my cousin the police officer who gets crazy comp-time). And just watch the TV.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I have a little time thanks to travels.
But yeah, My tv time has dramatically decreased over the past year :(
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I could probably watch more DVD's
if I were taking plane-trips and stuck in hotels.
But then, I’d never get to the DVR (and I still don’t get it cleared off quickly, as is).
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Probably not new to you...
..but being still sore from the OSU Craptastic Letdown Super Tour that just swung through CHA, I just received this video from my aunt. Best video I’ve ever seen with the line, “So I hear you think you know something about Iowa? Fuck you.” Lifted my spirits a bit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLZZ6JD0g9Y
Hopefully I’m not beating a dead horse by posting this, just got it and it gave me a chuckle.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
It is, but that video rules, so you are forgiven.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
My fave part continues to be:
“Do you love to eat? Looks like it.”
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Eating a large handful of cake is also fantastic
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
I love cake,
but I need a spoon.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
I think I posted that link last week
But I agree with Chazz. You are absolutely forgiven
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Whew, thanks.
Having a new baby, new job, and sick dad back in Iowa, my life is a busy, blurry, foggy, what-the-fuck-day-is-it poor excuse of a life. I honestly thought all the CHA events were tomorrow as of noon today. I am all out of sorts.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
Best wishes, dude.
I get borderline-overwhelmed just managing myself, with very few big life problems (or good things, like your job and child).
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
yes, best wishes all around. And congrats on the first two.
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
Echoing the sentiments of these other folks
Best wishes man
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Much appreciated all.
BTW, my initials are NAG, and I declared if we had a boy I’d want him to have the same initials. I tried for Nile, no shit, but the wife wouldn’t go for it (she doesn’t understand, she’s from Ohio and went to Denison). Turns out we had a boy and we settled for Nolan Aubrey. He might not be a Nile, but he sure as hell is a Hawkeye.
LoganSq2DBQ - January 7, 2012
You still got the Iowa reference in with Aubrey, as in Aubrey Devine. Awesome!
Hawkeyegirl - January 9, 2012
Aaand Des Moines made an appearance on Cops tonight
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Vint? Jacobi?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Crazy (legit) bald guy waving a knife at people.
I hope that is neither of them
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Oh god fucking damnit. I asked them not to put that on tv.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
OK, they have hair so it's probably not them.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
That explains Jacobi's decision to call it quits.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Jacobi has (some) hair...
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Robbie Lawler fighting out of D-port
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Jesus, now THAT's a cheap shot.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Technically, sure.
But it’s a stupid rule. Soccer kicks and stomps are dangerous, knees like that aren’t any worse than a ground and pound elbow.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Hey someone from Iowa wins today!
HOORAY!
RossWB - January 7, 2012
UNI mens' hoops won at Drake by 15,
ISU won at A&M by 25 today.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
Congratulations to Iowa school I do not care about at all.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
So. Much. Angerrrrrr.
Blackheartnopants - January 7, 2012 via Android app
That was a goofy finish
RossWB - January 7, 2012
TWSS?
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
hahaha
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Awesome. I love how we have 1100+ comments on a wrestling thread that evolved into Ham'dam.
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
I just came by to see how things went tonight (I had a sad)
And I said aloud “LOLWUT” when I saw the number of comments.
Yabbs - January 7, 2012
But how did you pronounce that?
therealCatnuts - January 7, 2012
el oh el wut.
However I’m #teamLawl if we’re talking pure LOL.
Yabbs - January 7, 2012
#team_ell_ohh_ell
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Well, folks, Today's been fun.
Too bad we lost both major events today. Eh, there will be other days.
Have a great evening, y’all!
EnergizerHawk - January 7, 2012
Sorry Chazz, 49'ers play the Saints. Better luck next year.
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
We'll see.
Niners keep surprising me.
But yeah, they’re probably done.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
It's more how the Saints are playing right now than anything
clay-born to party - January 7, 2012
Yeah, I know.
And, I still don’t trust the Niners’ offense.
WaterlooChazz - January 7, 2012
This is probably the most "meh" championship fight that I've ever seen.
Two guys that basically lucked into their title shots.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
GOODNIGHT JARDINE.
Knocked clean out.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Man, that ref let Jardine take a LOT of abuse.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Seriously, WTF was that ref thinking?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
The overhead shot made the convulsions look like Jardine trying to get up.
Herb just had a terrible view, which is his fault, and probably wasn’t sure how bad it was.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Yeah
He wasn’t defending himself at all, though
RossWB - January 7, 2012
He took a unnecessary beating.
Dean really should’ve been on the other side, or closer so that he had a better understanding of how hurt Jardine was.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Wait, that was Herb Dean?
Oof.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
What a terrible interview.
Asking UFC to send fighters to Strikeforce? hahhahahahahahahaha

Did you see CM Punk is walking out with Sonnen at this next match?
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I did not.
That’s pretty cool.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
So apparently "The Devil Inside" has a REALLY shitty ending.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
actually I have heard from numerous people that it is the worst horror movie ever made.
besides the human centipede for completely different reasons.
KirksGumInHaydensStas - January 7, 2012
I just heard some people talking about it on Twitter, so I went and googled it.
That sounds really awful.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
I would recommend listening to Daniel Tosh's spoiler alert for Human Centipede
That movie was bad, but not as awful as I expected. The sequel was about 10 times worse than I had expected for either it or the original. I would have stopped watching after about 20 minutes, but I paid to rent it. Out of principle, I had to make myself watch all of it.
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
The director has promised to make the third even more disgusting.
How he plans to top barbed wire masturbation is beyond me.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Christ, there is going to be a third?
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Yeah.
Here’s the first story I found about it. I didn’t bother to read it because I refuse to watch any of them.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
One can only hope
fingers crossed
Actually, if you want to watch a fucked up, no hope for humanity movie, check out (or probably download [doubt you can rent it]) A Serbian Film.
It is easily the most messed up movie you can ever watch. It makes Human Centipede look like child’s play.

Yeah, I've heard about Human Centipede (and saw Tosh's bit about it).
I can’t bring myself to watch it.
I meant that I heard people talking about The Devil Inside on Twitter, though.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Ahh, my bad
ManziBall - January 7, 2012
Frank Shamrock has had braces for a decade.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
Maybe he's going undercover as a high school student in an upcoming movie.
RossWB - January 7, 2012
Shameless is back tomorrow.
I expect Emmy Rossum to be topless in the opening scene.
The Mexican't - January 7, 2012
I shamelessy GIS'd that
