Well
Charlie Weis, you’re a peach.
RossWB - January 27, 2012
Yeah, he is a douche
Lycurgus - January 27, 2012
In totally unrelated news...
Minnesota is down 12-7 to Michigan at intermission of their dual tonight.
RossWB - January 27, 2012
Pritzlaf is a good coach for them
I think Illinois and Michigan might do some interesting things in the coming years. My brother thinks Thielke is better than McCauley
Lycurgus - January 27, 2012
Can't say Weis doesn't keep it real.
That is for sure.
mikjones24 - January 27, 2012
Real douchey.
RossWB - January 27, 2012
When keepin it real goes wrong
therealCatnuts - January 27, 2012
Eh, I don't think either side came out looking all that peachy there.
I can’t fault Berglund for the assault charges, and it sounds like he just got screwed by the coaching staff (he was told he could compete for the backup spot? Well, glad we’ve got free and open competition, then, chief), but KU paid for a year’s worth of courses (according to the data center under Weis’ third roll) for a player who hadn’t been on the team, really. If I were Weis, I’d be pissed, too, though
probablycertainly not pissed enough to go full-sarcasm in a press release. My question is, why wasn’t Berglund sent to a CC at home so that he could work out his legal problems, and then go to KU after a year?hkobb7 - January 27, 2012
I'm sure Weis and KU were annoyed, but they should have been the bigger men here.
Er, no pun intended.
What do they gain by dragging this kid through the mud in public and entering into a “he said”/“he said” debate about it? They just look petty and mean-spirited.
RossWB - January 27, 2012
I think it's great
But I’m not a football coach and football coaches have to be the better men. They shouldn’t be acting like ex-girlfriends.
mikjones24 - January 27, 2012
Ahahaha bigger man.
Charlie Weis is an ass, though; of this, I am sure.

He was the one who prematurely posted the CBS story about Paterno's death.
CBS wound up with egg on their face and had to issue a withdrawal. The story, I believe, originally came from the PSU student newspaper, Onward State, whose editor resigned over the ensuing fiasco. That’s what I’ve gathered, anyway. Unfortunate situation, that.
hkobb7 - January 27, 2012
He's being put down by the man,

Let’s be blunt, we all know he’s a great writer, and most sports sites * coughtWWLcough * would be lucky to have someone as good as him.

hkobb7 - January 28, 2012

I love Jacobi, but even he acknowledges that he screwed up. It sucks that it cost him his job, though. Hopefully someone else gives him a shot, he’s too talented to stay on the shelf for long (and until then I hope he’ll pop up here some more, because I miss him)

Blackheartnopants - January 27, 2012 via Android app
A lot of ski resorts are close to high deserts
So you could come ski all day and still make it to your desert.
BoiseHawk - January 27, 2012
Luckily, I don't need a million for that.
Just hop in the truck and go. Although these days it is sans tekillya.
Love the desert—everything is just different. The light, the smell, the air, the sky. Amazing natural beauty to be found if you care to look for it. But it will mess with you if you aren’t paying attention.

My brother managed to get himself kicked out of a Decorah vs Oelwein GBB game.
SO PROUD
BraveHawk - January 27, 2012
Not to be a douche but...
You have to be a real A-hole for something like that to happen.
i_love_iowa - January 27, 2012
No shit.
Decorah has always seemed just repressed enough to be really angry when they want to blow off steam.
And Oelwein is Oelwein. People in the east side of Waterloo are like “Damn, Oelwein is a hell-hole.”
WaterlooChazz - January 27, 2012
You might think so.
But you obviously are unaware of the AD Decorah currently has. My brother was kicked out because when the refs made a bad call he stood up and stared menacingly at them. No words were exchanged.
BraveHawk - January 27, 2012
Dripping
in weak sauce to be kicked out like that.
Unless your brother was the big scary dude in Happy Gilmore
BoiseHawk - January 27, 2012
Decorah is trying really hard to be tough on bad sportsmanship and
be a step above the rest. Our administration was/is politically correct to an extreme.

clay-born to party - January 27, 2012
LOL, yeah, I'm sure it happened EXACTLY like that.
Once again, I Lol.
i_love_iowa - January 27, 2012
I was also kicked out of a volleyball game because we would yell the number of the girl's uni as she went for a spike.
Our AD had a quick trigger finger for his own kids.
BraveHawk - January 27, 2012
That's not always a terrible thing.
But, it could be like my high school, where the 40 kids that do show up to hoops games pretty much sit on their hands and don’t cheer for 2 hours.
Why even show up?
WaterlooChazz - January 27, 2012
I admit it's a tough line to walk.
But as long as you’re not insulting players or the refs themselves you should let your fans be fans.

Jack Del Rio named DC of the Broncos
I believe he was on the short list in the last article here and had been one of the far-fetched rumors on a few boards, but he gone.
i_love_iowa - January 27, 2012
Fox's old DC.
The question is will he stay around or take the first HC job that comes along (next year?). Dude gets $5 mil next year whether he works or not. His salary with Denver gets deducted from that. Next year he might have to get a real job. But, if CU can land his son I’d almost think he might stay awhile.
The message board on the local paper is more concerned about whether or not Manning will land here and if so, what’s to become of poor Timmey Tebow than signing Jack Del Rio.

Hawkeyes Wrestling in Grand View Open today
on Trackwrestling.com if you want to see who is where
the most interesting thing is Bobby Telford is wrestling, which means Rasing is probably wrestling in the Minny match. Clark,, Dwez, Grothus, Jake Ballweg, Fahler, Lira all wrestling as well, with most doing exactly what you would expect Iowa wrestlers to do so far

That's the worst part.
They’re not ashamed. Even after we repeatedly remind them that they should be.
TwistConePlease - January 28, 2012
They're incredibly proud of things everyone else is ashamed of
Weird.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
the worst part might be that they let the public vote on the court and this is what they ended up with
rupertj - January 28, 2012
I don't think the public expected the floor to be stained, though.
If they took the time to paint the purple areas it would like fine.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Senior Bowl on NFL Network.
Russell Wilson missed a wide open McNutt on a 10-yard corner route during the North’s first series. I’m expecting at least one McNutt TD.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I really hope McNutt doesn't get drafted by a team that I dislike.
Just not the Cowboys, Bears, or Seahawks.
TwistConePlease - January 28, 2012
I'm seeing a lot of mock drafts with Blackmon to Chicago
So McNutt to Chicago is probably unlikely. My NFL personnel knowledge is lacking, so I’m not even sure which teams are in need of a WR2 (or “X” receiver as I’ve seen it written lately). It will be nice to see an Iowa WR in the league, though.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
So Chicago must be planning on trading up?
99FormationsButFourWideAin'tOne - January 28, 2012
Oh, duh, that's my bad.
Blackmon to the Rams is what I was seeing. Chicago was getting the kid from Notre Dame.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
McNutt is a better pick than the kid from ND
Quick name the last ND player that panned out.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
The safety.
Zbikowski? He’s still playing isn’t he?
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I think Rudolph could be a good TE for the Vikings.
But I thought Golden Tate would be good, too…
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I don't think he's playing
If he is, he’s nowhere near the value of a 3rd rd pick that he was.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
Yeah, he's not getting much play.
He’s a Raven, but managed just 23 tackles this year.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
It is a ridiculously futile list
see here
I think the answer to that question is probably Anthony Falsono (2nd rd) or Maurice Stovall (3rd rd), both in 2006. From 2007 on it’s a complete shitfest.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
This game is sloppy as fuck.
Weeden and Wilson each have thrown an INT and a RB from the South fumbled earlier. 3 turnovers in the first quarter.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Three consecutive terrible snaps for the North.
Apparently they moved a guard inside and his snap technique was lacking.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
HEY - Iowa Ladies are on BTN.
Up 50-38 with 5:02 left in the 2nd. GO HAWKS!
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
you'd never guess that they started the game something like 1-13 shooting.
rupertj - January 28, 2012
Seriously?
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Yeah someone else mentioned it to.
They had something like 3 points over the first 5 minutes.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Yow. That Morgan Johnson is on fire.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Scratch that.
Checking the gamecast shows they had 3 points for the first 9:26.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
And 55 points for the ensuing 9 minutes and 45 seconds.
Night and Day.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Yeah, it's pretty incredible.
That’s a massive turnaround. Holding any offense to 40 points over 38 minutes is also incredible.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Especially with a team that hung 80 on jNW.
Wait, what?
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
yeah, it was ugly early
rupertj - January 28, 2012
Colts hired former Pittsburgh OC.
Whichever QB they end up using is going to be ecstatic.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
OH DEAR LORD.
That purple stain on the jNW court is horrendous. Back to BTN.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Ah, that parquet at Carver Hawkeye is pretty cool. I'm a fan.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012

EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012

rupertj - January 28, 2012
Oh, man, the North should have had a punt return TD.
Cincinnati player tripped at the 20. McNutt then has a pass ripped out of his hands. So close to two TDs today.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
life would be so muc h better without Dakich
he is such an idiot
OhioHawk - January 28, 2012
Kellen Moore has thrown 2 perfect passes and B1G WRs have let him down.
Posey lets a pass go thru his hands. Wasted field position for the North.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I never would have figured jNW for fans of the acid-washed look.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I’m inexplicably watching this game (OMHR v. jNW) despite the horrible court and antipathy toward either team. Fortunately, the refs are ridiculous.
txhawkeye - January 28, 2012
Go Purdue. I guess.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Eh, me too. I enjoy jNW losing more. The refs are awful all around though. Giving the TO falling out of bounds, then that double dribble. The court is making everyone ashamed.
txhawkeye - January 28, 2012
That timeout was horseshit
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Watching Robbie Hummel play this year give me greater understanding of what other B1G fans must have felt like watching Jess Settles play forever.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
i think jess played with more gusto to be honest
i felt bad for hummel each time he was injured
but this year there is no gusto in his game

RossWB - January 28, 2012
Jeez, KF is pretty cut for a 50 year old dude.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
That's what I said.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
He's the same age as my dad when he died
He looks a LOT better than my dad. Good for him.
therealCatnuts - January 29, 2012
The Hawkeye Wrestling Club is supposed to have video, too
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I wonder if Brands just blurts out multiple explicit words
Without knowing he’s on camera.
Then again, that’s never stopped him before.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
If so, we might not see the video for a while.
Could take a while to add that many bleeps.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Or just set it to Black and Yellow!
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
I enjoyed the video
Especially when they called for the 1st 3: Brands, Doyle & Ferentz. There stand Brands & Doyle, all ready to go, with Brands saying something like ’where’s the king?’.
KF had a nice dive.
Why is our heralded S&C guy so not very strong & conditioned looking?
HawkeyeGirleye - January 28, 2012
Lots of former body builders end up looking like giant softies as they age.
I don’t know what Doyle did before coming on board as S&C coach, but I know a few power lifters that look about the same.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Good point
I knew he was a pretty big guy but my paunch-to-muscle ratio was way off.
HawkeyeGirleye - January 28, 2012
Why is that?
I’m trying to figure out the physiological reason behind that?
EnergizerHawk - January 29, 2012
I dunno. They probably just don't work out as hard as they used to as they get older
The Mexican't - January 29, 2012
tissue elasticity
super-cut guys just can’t maintain the muscle production and some of it turns back to stored energy (fat) regardless of how much one works out
Eyeheartfreedumb - January 29, 2012
That makes a LOT of sense. Thanks!
EnergizerHawk - January 29, 2012
Jesus. Balls.
Robbie Hummel.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Robbie Hummel's not too bad at this basketball thing.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
LOL jNW
THAT was the best shot you could get?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Yeah, I can’t throw stones, but can point and laugh
txhawkeye - January 28, 2012
WOOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOOOOZEEE!
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Kirky Cousins threw a TD for the North in the Senior Bowl
Judging by the lack of shit-losing on my Twitter feed, though, it wasn’t to McNutt.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I kinda wish everyone just wore their home or away unis in this game
Rather than the dumb custom Senior Bowl unis.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Tell me about it
It’s like Stalin runs the thing. What is this “everyone dress the same shit” anyway?!
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I feel this way about most All-Star type games.
I think we’re smart enough to figure things out, you know?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Oregon players would really fuck things up
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
That actually would be pretty sweet.
A little confusing, wait – nahhh, all the away team would be white. YES! I’M ON BOARD!
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Off Topic – Cindy Brunson is weird looking in a distracting, yet strangely interesting way.
txhawkeye - January 28, 2012
Dude in the UFC prelims out of CLINTON, IOWA
I guess I have to root for him, too.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Aaaand he lost.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Was that a one rounder?
txhawkeye - January 28, 2012
He tapped out to a nasty triangle leg submission in the first, yeah.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I'm drinking a La Fin Du Monde
It sort of tastes like rotten oranges. Then I found out it’s from Canada.
Makes sense.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Where the hell did you find that?
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Place in Des Moines called Winestyles
They have beers from all over the world.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Speaking of beers.
I just opened my last bottle of Life and Limb. Kinda sad to see it go.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
I'll have to stop there while I'm home this weekend.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012

Which brewery?
The microbrews in Vancouver varied wildly in quality from “pretty good” to “piss from a Horseman of the Apocalypse”

but since our debacle and their fanbase on message boards none of those are true anymore.. Go Drake!

KilometersDavis - January 28, 2012

I’d love to see me some messi live.
TwistConePlease - January 28, 2012
That would be pretty kickass.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Yeah, there's actually been talk the last couple years of USA joining the Copa America, possibly along with Mexico.
This could be another overture toward that.
Eyeheartfreedumb - January 29, 2012
I'm going to Golden Corral tonight...

Finally
ARCHIE SMASH
RossWB - January 28, 2012
For some reason, I am suspicious of this soccer injury.
http://bit.ly/wTl1FK
RossWB - January 28, 2012
A couple thoughts
1) I can’t believe they’re playing on that field
2) Truly horrific fake
3) Fakes that bad should have serious fines attached
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
And here's the Arctic Plunge image gallery thing
WARNING: Chris Doyle and Kirk Ferentz in swim trunks ahead!
hkobb7 - January 28, 2012
And yet no warning for Luke Lofthouse in that outfit.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Yeah, probably should've prefaced that.
And also Brands’ chest hair, which is rumored to be bulletproof.
hkobb7 - January 29, 2012
So McNutt was targeted only twice (unless I missed some), both times inside the redzone.
The first was a poor throw by Wilson and the second was caught on the goal line, but was ripped out of his hands before he established possession.
He definitely didn’t improve his stock, but the Vikings coaching staff seemed to think he was a pretty good redzone target.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Hmm.
Christian Ponder needs SOMEONE to throw to…
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Ooh, that is a nasty eye injury.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Well that fight kinda sucked.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Anyone want to meet up
And go win a Pac 12 game? I’m sure we could.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
How soon can we get that scheduling arrangement going?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I think they're still waiting on Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to join
Before they make any serious decisions.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Okie State would probably beat us, unfortunately.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Jon Jones
Is one bad mofo. Don’t watch a lot of UFC but I’ve seen him fight 4-5 times.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I'll never get over the fact that he was THISCLOSE to wrestling at Iowa.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I thought he was closer to wrestling at Iowa State than Iowa.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Hmm. I guess that may be true. I thought I'd read Iowa in a Fight! magazine interview but I've since thrown that away.
Quick search shows that it was a grades issue and he mentions both schools in his Sherdog interview. Oh well.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I thought it was because he got his girlfriend knocked up and needed to go make money to support them.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Well, that would be something worth covering up in an interview.
The quote:
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Actually, it looks like he didn't have the grades to go to ISU right out of HS.
He was going to there after spending a few years in JUCO, though, but that’s when the unplanned pregnancy issue popped up and he had to go make some dough.

mikjones24 - January 28, 2012

EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
UFC on FOX
RossWB - January 28, 2012
FOX proper? Well that's interesting.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Yes FOX the network
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I guess I'm not used to UFC on broadband channels.
I’m used to them being on cable or PPV.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
STRIKEFORCE FTW
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Yeah. It's only their second show on basic cable.
The first was just one fight back in November. That fight ended in a minute so it was easily missed.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I consider:
NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and PBS to be broadband channels. They were the channels I grew up with in the farmhouse since we didn’t have cable.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Yeah, this is UFC on FOX 2.
I guess “basic cable” wasn’t the correct term.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Just clarifying what I meant by broadband earlier that's all. I can see how basic cable can apply. Ehh, whatever.
I’m going to enjoy my bourbon barrel aged beer. Carry on.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Chael wrestled at OreGON
Didn’t even know they had wrestling.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012

That explains it.

WaterlooChazz - January 28, 2012

and will now shoot two free throws.
Hits em both.
UW Green Bay beating Butler, 72-62.

Sonnen didn't take Bisping seriously and now we've got to listen to that loudmouth Scouser for a few more months.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Yeah, but if he does get a shot at Silva...
IMAGINE THE MASSACRE AND HOW GLORIOUS IT WILL BE
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I hope that Silva treats him like GSP did Penn in their last fight.
Just 15-20 minutes of destruction that breaks Bisping’s will.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
That was one of the last fights I watched
Jesus, that was tough to watch for BJ.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Yeah, the Diaz-Penn fight was just as bad, if not worse.
Penn took some poundings over the last couple years.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
COME ON SONNEN
Choke this douchebag out.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I just want to know
When will the douchebag on douchebag violence stop?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I actually just really want someone to end Silva's reign.
Hoping that it’ll send Anderson back to the gym with a fire.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
He finished his last few fights lickety-split.
I’m not sure how much more fire he needs.
I’m just happy to watch one of the GOATs do his thing.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I guess I forgot about the Belfort fight.
Who was before that?
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Oh, Yushin.
I don’t know if I saw that fight.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
He annihilated him.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
VIOLENCE! FUCK YEAH!
WhiteSpeedReceiver - January 28, 2012
Wait
Is he serious?
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
He's a WWE heel fighting in the UFC.
I’m pretty sure he knows he comes across as a dipshit, but I love his commitment to the role.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
They have to fight Spider in Brazil? That's not really fair.
That’d be like fighting Hatton in London. I mean, unless this happened:

mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
RICKY FATTON.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Good night, fat prince.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
He's not sweet?
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
He may well be considering his love for treats.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
He has a sweet tooth.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
The fat ones pack a mean punch
But nobody packs a punch like Pacman. Even my wife loves watching him fight.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012

Seeing him shoot from outside and then collapse after taking a knee to the face would be a great Sparty nooooooo moment.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
But he's fighting a Nittany Lion
Lesser of evils?
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I have no idea which of these evils is lesser.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Phil Davis comes out to Kanye West
Rashad comes out to Mobb Deep. Yep, I know who I want to win.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
It is kinda cool that two ex-B1G guys are fighting in the heart of B1G country.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
And the Sonnen interview has already been uploaded by Deadspin.
How does it feel to be inches from greatness?
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012

WaterlooChazz - January 29, 2012

He looks like Dwight Howard
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Phil Davis is the only man that makes Dwight Howard wonder if his shoulders are ridiculous enough.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
You owe Mike some crack.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Y U STEAL MY COMMENTS
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I can't believe that simultaneous Dwight Howard jokes even happened.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Now I want Davis to try a Superman punch.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
KO by Superman punch would be hilarious.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Because it's true
His traps are the size of a soccer ball.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Those have been some really weak shots from Davis.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Yeah
He looks slow, too.
He looks way outclassed so far.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Yeah, Rashad just isn't phased by the scale of the event.
Phil may not have been as ready for the spotlight.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012

The difference between MMA wrestling and college wrestling is that you can beat the shit out of the guy.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
You just have to be a little more discreet in beating the shit out of the other guy in college wrestling.

mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I wonder if he has to leave if they show that Pitbull ad in the arena.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
It's not the size of the fight in the dog,
it’s the size of your kennel operation that really matters. BADD NEWZ!!!
WaterlooChazz - January 29, 2012
I feel like Brands would be a great MMA
Wrestling coach.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I'm a fan of Carlos Condit, but there isn't a fight I'd rather see than Diaz-GSP.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Yeah, that should be a pretty fun fight.
Hope we get it later this year.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I've been drinking. I don't know if I can see straight much anymore.
I’m impressed that I’m able ti type as well as I am. I hope this is acceptable for hamsterdam.

The men's gymnastics team won today
Did you know we were ranked 14th in the nation? Well if you don’t know, now you know…
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
So we are now ranked higher? Or are we still #14?
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Better question
Did I know that there were 14 men’s gymnastics teams in the nation?
(ANSWER: No.)
RossWB - January 28, 2012
LOL.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
At this point
I’m just supporting any good teams Iowa has left.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Do we have a trap shooting club?
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
No, but we do have a women's rowing team
Who has one of the most ridiculous facilities I’ve ever seen…and I didn’t even know it existed.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Women's Crew is awesome.
I knew a few crew members back when I was in school. They trained A LOT.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
The laser building?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Or the other one?
Someone gave UI a ton of money specifically for a new rowing facility, I heard.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
This one:
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Uh, is that new?
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYIN!
No, it’s been there since 2009.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
So, yeah, that's new (to me)
I left campus in 2007. Anything since then is “new” to me.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
They needed a building pretty badly.
They were practicing outside the IMU. Literally.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Didn't they use part of the laser building?
Or was that just for storage?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I don't know what the laser building is.
I just remember seeing girls on rowing machines outside the giant black building that stored the boats. Across from the science building at the bottom of the hill.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Sigh
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
WHERE THE HELL IS THAT?
West side of the river?
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Uh, right by the IMU, bro.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I clearly never paid attention to anything when I was around the IMU.
I only had one class in the science building and I hated it so much that I spent most of my walk complaining about having to go.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I would have thought the fact that it was big and shiny would have caught your eye once or twice.
But maybe not.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
NOPE
I still can’t picture it. I’m going to have to Google Map that mo’fo.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
It's literally RIGHT NEXT to the IMU.
Just down the hill from ChemBot
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I saw that fucker every day while I was on campus. Shiny!
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
WAIT, I THINK I REMEMBER NOW.
Right next to the stupid fountain thingy outside the IMU?
(Just to be clear, I never used that exit at the IMU. I always came in and left on the Hubbard Park side)
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Yeah, next to the fountain.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
It's at the end of the bridge that comes from the old art building and museum.
Eyeheartfreedumb - January 29, 2012
OMG IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO THE IMU
HOW COULD YOU MISS IT?
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I must have just blocked it out.
I still don’t remember it even after being told where it was.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I'll post another picture at the bottom of the thread
Maybe that will help.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
That is the Iowa Advanced Tech Labs.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
Pretty sure they're housing nuclear weapons in that building
In all my years I never saw anyone go in or anyone come out.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
My favorite story about it....
was that they didn’t budget enough for the cost of the actual equipment… So it was the this gorgeous, modern building that was completely empty/useless.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I visited it on my campus tour
and never saw the inside again. As I recall, the basement is a labyrinth of very narrow hallways with imposing doors leading to very small labs (the one I saw was less than 300 square feet). Very Bond-ian, really.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
I got a meningitis shot there once
During an outbreak. Think it was brand new then. & I heard the same story about running out of money & not being able to use the damn thing after it was finished.
HawkeyeGirleye - January 28, 2012
Ugh. The nerve.
How dare they practice where those homeless people bathe.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Wait, that's a rowing center?
That looks an awful lot like the art building.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Ah
Yeah, that must be the one that built with the money that was earmarked for it.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Yeah it says it cost 7 million.
I bet it’s really making its money back too.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Probably not, but if someone gives you money and says "BUILD A ROWING BUILDING WITH THIS," what are you gonna do?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Build a new football office building and call it the Rowling-Fry football office.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012

RossWB - January 28, 2012
See the IMU. See the nuclear weapons building. There ya go:
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Aw, I see my old dorms there.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Dirty?
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Burge and Currier.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Burge is now the awesome dorm.
You were still on campus after the renovations, weren’t you?
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
It happened right when I left
It was a totally different building.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Yeah, it was an impressive transformation.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
The renovations were after I lived there.
I lived there in 00-01, Currier in 01-02.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Oh. I thought we had a crossover period at Iowa.
I didn’t get there until 03
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Well, I was definitely still in Iowa City then.
I just wasn’t living in the dorms.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I was in Daum in 02-03 and Slater 04-06.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
I was in 5 dorms
all Freshman year. It’s a long story that’s not nearly as interesting as that lead-in sounds.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
Also, where are the homeless people?
And the ducks?
This pic has clearly been ’shopped.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
It still looks pretty cold
So the homeless people haven’t been shipped in from Chicago yet.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
BUT WHERE ARE THE DUCKS
RossWB - January 28, 2012
They're getting held up by Anthony Hubbard
In his park.
SEE WHAT I DID THERE?
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
ohhhh
RossWB - January 28, 2012
That's pretty funny.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
All right, I'm crazy for not remembering this building.
That said, if I see another picture of it in a few months I’m almost certain to be all, “WHERE THE HELL IS THAT”
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I can't stop giggling at the subject line
I think it’s because it sounds like you’re talking to a terribly stubborn preschooler. But you’re not.
HawkeyeGirleye - January 28, 2012
Tell me I'm not the only one drinking alcohol tonight.
EnergizerHawk - January 28, 2012
you're not. Started with stout, switched to some red wine
Cotes du Rhone is awesome. Never had a bad one in 5+ tries.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
It actually won't be a long flight back to Champaign, Tim Doyle.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I wonder if Sting goes to a doctor when he has an erection lasting 4 hours.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
SENDING OUT AN SOS
SENDING OUT AN SOS
SomeJerkPoster - January 28, 2012
Yeah, that'll get a rec from this guy.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
This needs some greening.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
Ross, if Liverpool draws Chelsea in the next round of the FA Cup then you and I are going to war.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Now that football is over I get to be an asshole Liverpool fan.
Which is exciting.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
WAAAAAR
I’m rooting for one of the lower division teams that made it through.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I don't even know which other Premiership clubs are left in the FA Cup.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Tottenham is the other big one left.
Arsenal too if they beat Villa tomorrow.
Not sure after that.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Did you see Liverpool offered Carroll to Man City for Tevez in a straight trade?
RossWB - January 28, 2012
hahahhahahahhaahhahahahahaah
That’s awesome. I wish City were that stupid.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Are there some financial reasons for this that I'm not aware of?
Because that seems remarkably one-sided
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
I think they were hoping that City just really wanted to unload him.
Since he doesn’t get any minutes, at least adding Carroll provides them some depth in Europe. Even still, that’s an awful transfer for City.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Carroll would be 4th choice at best there.
Behind Aguero, Balotelli, and Dzeko.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Oh, certainly.
The thing about having to play in Europe is that you almost need 4 strikers, though. Otherwise the squad will be absolutely exhausted.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
I don't think they care that much about Europa, really.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Holy shit.
I thought City were in CL.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Nope.
Chelsea and Arsenal are the only EPL teams alive in the Champions League.
Man U and Man City both finished 3rd in their groups.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
It pretty much would be, which is why City said no.
They need to unload Tevez because he refuses to play for them, but they also won’t accept anything less than a huge offer for him.
Pool just wants to get rid of Carroll because he’s a big depth.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Also, I am amused that Liverpool could win the cup double...
And still finish outside the top 5.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
They are just one point out of fifth.
And Suarez’s suspension is nearly up. A top 4 finish is highly unlikely, but Arsenal’s failure to put Liverpool any further behind is probably enough to give the Reds a spot in European competition.
Of course, it won’t even matter if they win the Carling Cup since that’s an automatic qualifier for Europa.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Yeah, 5th is doable.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Are you surprised that Dempsey didn't get moved during the transfer window?
I can’t believe one of the top 4 clubs didn’t put in an offer.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
A little
But Fulham doesn’t want to give him up since they need his goals to stay up in the Premiership.
And I don’t think the Big 4 (or 6, as it is now) think Dempsey is good enough for them. Which I think is stupid, but hey. I hope he gets to play in the Champions League, but I think he’ll have to do it in Germany or Italy.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I guess.
I’d think that Tottenham could find a place for him, thought they may not be able to afford him.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Oh, I think Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool could absolutely use him.
I think they’re just so snobbish about US talent (especially US attacking talent) that they would never go after him.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I don't know if it's snobbishness
or the dire history of American players on the international scene. It’s been a pretty bad track record for the last century.
therealCatnuts - January 28, 2012
Probably both.
But Donovan and Dempsey have both proven that they’re very capable of playing at a high level in the EPL, so refusing to acknowledge their track record now looks pretty foolish.
But, hey, if Arsenal wants roll out Marouane Chamakh instead of Clint Dempsey, more power to ‘em. I’m sure my dumb little American brain just doesn’t understand what true talent is.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
I've heard that stereotyping is common in the EPL
Germans are this, the Dutch are that, I guess Americans are "
keepers, and not much else."
Blackheartnopants - January 28, 2012 via Android app
No such luck.
Liverpool gets Brighton, Chelsea gets Birmingham
RossWB - January 29, 2012
Hooray.
I’ll see you in the semi-finals, then.
The Mexican't - January 29, 2012
Or quarters, maybe
RossWB - January 29, 2012
Hmm.
I don’t think these ladies were at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club Arctic Plunge today.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Speaking of
I never saw evidence that the 3 dance team girls took the plunge.
HawkeyeGirleye - January 28, 2012
They did.
There are some pics of them in the water at the end of this gallery.
RossWB - January 28, 2012
Gracias
Good for them!
HawkeyeGirleye - January 28, 2012
Let's see...
The Condemned or Hard to Kill.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
I just finished Tin Cup but couldn't stick around for Grosse Pointe Blank
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Awwwww, I love GPB
I watched Friday Night Lights earlier today. Love that movie too.
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
And now Exit Wounds?
What’s going on here? Steven Segal night?
mikjones24 - January 28, 2012
Oof.
Oh, Mizzou…
RossWB - January 28, 2012
This makes HawkEye Yellow look AMAZINGER
SomeJerkPoster - January 28, 2012
HAI GUYS, DID YOU KNOW MIZZOU HATES KANSAS?
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
Somehow Colorado State has an even uglier court than Northwestern and Oregon.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
The one with the giant ram horns
varnished differently into the wood?
They’ve had that for quite awhile.
WaterlooChazz - January 29, 2012
Yeah. It just looks like portions of the floor were sticky and it's now covered in dust.
Awful.
The Mexican't - January 29, 2012
Apparently Glee covered a fun. song.
And now I miss The Format again.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
What fun song?
EnergizerHawk - January 29, 2012
We Are Young
The Mexican't - January 29, 2012
OH SHIT.
Cub Swanson’s KO was the number play of the day. Baylor’s insane half-court alley-oop was only number 7.
The Mexican't - January 28, 2012
This Arsenal-Villa game has gone full on crazypants.
