Black Heart Gold Fashion Week continues...
No short shorts for these guys.
Of course, as commenter Mr. Grizz pointed out yesterday, while these are very sharp uniforms they, um, actually aren't what Iowa wore in 86-87. See?
Those have sexy v-necks, but no script Iowa. Were they just so excited to bring back the script Iowa jerseys AND celebrate the 86-87 team that they didn't think anyone would care if they fudged the details a little? Who knows.

I like both sets
The script Iowa and the one’s Dr. Tom ushered in were both good unis. Was 85-86 (Ravelling’s last year) the last time they wore script Iowa?
The Iowa jersey under [REDACTED] was a joke. That looked like some cheap knock-off from Wal-Mart.

I liked the Alford-era unis better than
some of the ones from the last 3 or so years.

Agreed
The Alford one’s looked cheap, but these? I’m at a loss. It wasn’t an upgrade when we changed to those. Hideous.
Novel idea – let’s pick one look and stick with it. The football team gets it (for the most part – the banana peels, obviously, take the cake as greatest Iowa uni ever). The wrestlers definitely get it. Basketball? They’re in the fashion wilderness.

You are dead to me.

I need sarcasm font
Honestly, I didn’t mean it.
Nickhawk08 - January 20, 2012
No backpedaling. Own it. Loud and Proud.
nhradar - January 20, 2012
Yep.
WaterlooChazz - January 20, 2012
That's good.
But tere are enough people who LEGITIMATELY THINK THAT that I (sadly) can no longer assume sarcasm in comments like that…
RossWB - January 20, 2012
Seriously, it was sarcasm
Those uniforms are a blight on Iowa football and Hayden’s otherwise sparkling resume.
Biggest problems, as I see it, on Hayden’s resume:
1. 0-fer the Rose Bowl
2. Banana Peel jerseys. The Steelers look says winners. The banana peel look says…something. I’m honestly not sure what it says.
Nickhawk08 - January 20, 2012
It says "we are okay looking like clowns."

Only God can judge me.

That is a beautiful catch.

Hellz Yeah!
WaterlooChazz - January 20, 2012
They look just like train tracks when the line is in a stance
Hayden said so.
nhradar - January 20, 2012
Hayden was a great, great man.
And I hope he used that check from Apex to take the missus on a nice vacation or build a romper room or get a Corvette or something.
But signing off on those uniforms… no. Just no.
RossWB - January 20, 2012
Oh, and I really like the shorts

front row, far right. Michael _____?
I know the rest of the guys. Can’t remember his last name. Anyone?
(Back row: Jeff Moe, Kent Hill, Ed Horton, Les Jepsen, Mark Jewell, Roy Marble, Bart Casey, Michael Morgan. Front row: Bill Jones, B.J. Armstrong, Gerry Wright, Brad Lohaus, Kevin Gamble, Al Lorenzen, XXX.)

Reaves?
hawkeye0485 - January 20, 2012
Yes
It’s Michael Reaves.
mikjones24 - January 20, 2012
yes.
thank you.
The Naked Bootleg - January 20, 2012
Moe looks funny with no t-shirt.
He’s shooting 3s with the t-shirt on in my memory banks.

most important part of his uni
was the cut off socks. He maintained he could run faster with his socks cut off.

1986.
Heady times to be a Hawkeye fan.
telepathetic - January 20, 2012
Hawks were good in so many sports in the mid-80s, it's ridiculous
I can think of wrestling, football, both basketball programs, and field hockey all being great programs at the time. Am I missing any?
Nickhawk08 - January 20, 2012
Men's gymnastics maybe? I think they may have been pretty good around that time
brock_tune - January 20, 2012
I think you're right
1986 was especially good – 10-win season for football, men’s basketball at the start of a 30-win season and an Elite Eight appearance, the women’s team about to dominate the conference, wrestling winning Big Ten’s and Nationals, ditto for Field Hockey, and men’s gymnastics winning the Big Ten. Not a bad haul.
Nickhawk08 - January 20, 2012
Haircuts from the era would be a nice touch

"Who wears short shorts?"
If I knew how to upload pictures or could access YouTube at work, this thread could be taken to whole ’nuther level.
Hawkeyegirl - January 20, 2012
I remember those weird stripe shorts
that went over the crotch and butt, definitely 80s. Probably the ugliest BB unis we’ve ever had.

IAinCA - January 20, 2012
Roy Marble could sky
His head is nearly even with the bottom of the back board. Too bad that team dabbled a bit too much with the nose candy.
“Oh okay. Yeah, I hurt myself. I hurt my nose.” – Kenny Powers
Nickhawk08 - January 20, 2012
The only thing that could make these Unis any better
Is if an 19-year old Ronnie Lester donned it on February 4th.
One_ill_KevinJ - January 20, 2012
I think a 19yo Roy Marble will be just fine.
BStylin Hawkye - January 20, 2012
Oh my god. Youngsters. Ronnie Lester was, well, Ronnie Lester. One of the great, terribly unfortunate episodes of Iowa hoopyball was his bad knee his senior year.
txhawkeye - January 20, 2012
Wasn't the 1980 team something like 14-1 when he was healthy, below .500 when he wasn't?
They would’ve won the title with a healthy Ronnie Lester.
Nickhawk08 - January 20, 2012
I haven't really seen Ronnie. I was born in 1981, and ther isn't much Hawkeye basketball on film before then.
So, I hope, someday we have a Hawkeye that is a lot like him, just so some old-timer can tell me “That’s what Ronnie Lester was like.”
WaterlooChazz - January 20, 2012
Ronnie was on another level.
One_ill_KevinJ - January 20, 2012
I started scolling down right when BHGP was loading...
… which kind of streched the images a little bit, and got a great shot of what RDM and Gatens would look like if they both had some kid n’ play hair. Just wild, and fitting of the era. I’ll try to reproduce and post.
